William James "Billy" Lee (born July 1986) is a Group 1 winning Irish jockey who competes in flat racing.
Lee grew up on a farm in Ballingarry, County Limerick, where the family kept horses and his mother trained point-to-pointers. His sisters also went into training horses. Lee competed in pony racing from the age of nine and also entered the Castletown Donkey Derby on several occasions, coming second in 1994. [1] A video of the race was uploaded onto YouTube in 2011 and had been viewed more than 1.3 million times by 2022. [2] Lee started riding out for Tommy Stack in school holidays and was apprenticed to the yard when he left school in 2002. [1]
Lee rode his first winner aged sixteen when Zeno, trained by Stack, won at Sligo in August 2002. Before concentrating on the flat, he occasionally rode over hurdles for Stack, winning a Listed race at Haydock on Wanango in 2005. [1] [3] His first Group win came on Pollen, trained by Stack, in the Group 3 Park Express Stakes at the Curragh in March 2010. In 2013, he struck up a successful partnership with the Willie McCreery trained Fiesolana, winning the Group 3 Brownstown Stakes at Fairyhouse, the Group 3 Fairy Bridge Stakes at Tipperary and the Group 2 Challenge Stakes at Newmarket. The following season Fiesolana provided Lee with his first Group 1 victory when she won the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown. [3]
Lee's most successful year was 2022, when he rode 97 winners in Ireland and came a close second to Colin Keane in the Irish championship. His seven Group wins in 2022 included two at the highest level: the Pretty Polly Stakes on La Petite Coco and the Matron Stakes on Pearls Galore, both trained by Paddy Twomey. [3] [4]

Michael Hills is a retired British flat racing jockey, who won the 1996 Epsom Derby on Shaamit. He was British flat racing Champion Apprentice of 1983. He is twin brother to Richard Hills and their father is racehorse trainer Barry Hills.
Johnny Murtagh is an Irish flat racing trainer and former jockey from Bohermeen, near Navan, Kells, County Meath. As a jockey he won many of the major flat races in Europe, including all the Irish Classics, all the Group 1 Races at Royal Ascot, The Derby, the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes and Europe's biggest race the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. He was also Irish flat racing Champion Jockey five times. As a trainer, based at stables near Kildare, he has saddled a winner at Royal Ascot and an Irish Classic winner.
Lester Keith Piggott was an English professional jockey and trainer. With 4,493 career flat racing wins in Britain, including a record nine Epsom Derby victories, he is widely regarded as one of the greatest flat racing jockeys of all time and the originator of a much-imitated style. Popularly called "The Long Fellow", he was known for his competitive personality, restricting his weight and, on occasion, not sparing the whip, such as in the 1972 Derby. Piggott was convicted of tax fraud in 1987 and sentenced to three years in prison. He served just over one year.
The Ridgewood Pearl Stakes, also known as the Lanwades Stud Stakes, is a Group 2 flat horse race in Ireland open to thoroughbred fillies and mares aged four years or older. It is run at the Curragh over a distance of 1 mile, and it is scheduled to take place each year in May.
Jamie Spencer is an Irish flat racing jockey currently riding in the UK. He has been champion jockey in both Ireland and Britain and has won seven classics, five in Ireland and two in England. Spencer is an advocate for the art of holding up horses late into the races, and then making use of their natural dash of speed.
Philip Peter Robinson is a former English flat racing jockey.
Patrick Joseph Smullen, was an Irish jockey who won the Irish flat racing Champion Jockey title nine times. In a career running from 1992 to 2018 he rode 1,845 winners in Ireland and 47 in Britain. Amongst his biggest successes were riding Harzand to victories in the Epsom Derby and Irish Derby in 2016. He was stable jockey to Dermot Weld from 1999 until 2018.
James Joseph Fortune is a retired Irish thoroughbred jockey who in a 30-year career won over 1,800 races, including 16 Group 1s, and 1 British Classic, the 2007 St Leger.
William Buick is a Norwegian-British flat jockey. He shared the champion apprentice jockey title in 2008 with David Probert and won the Lester Award for Apprentice Jockey of the Year in 2007 and 2008. From 2010 to 2014 he was stable jockey to John Gosden. In 2015 he signed with Godolphin. Buick won his first Group1 race in Canada in 2010 and since then has won Group 1 races in England, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, the United Arab Emirates and the United States. He has won five British Classic Races: the St Leger in 2010, 2011 and 2021, the Derby in 2018 and the 2000 Guineas in 2024.
Joseph Patrick O'Brien is an Irish horse racing trainer and former flat racing jockey. He is the son of trainer Aidan O'Brien. In 2012 he rode Camelot to win the 2,000 Guineas, the 2012 Epsom Derby and the Irish Derby.
James Anthony "Seamie" Heffernan is an Irish flat racing jockey associated for most of his career with the stable of horse racing trainer Aidan O'Brien. From a family with no racing connections, Heffernan was introduced to the sport when he took a summer holiday job with the National Hunt trainer Arthur Moore. He began his racing career as an apprentice jockey for P J Finn and rode his first winner on 10 August 1988 at the age of sixteen. When Finn retired he moved to the yard of Jim Bolger and shared the Irish champion apprentices title in 1994. He was runner-up in the same competition in 1995 and moved to Aidan O'Brien's Ballydoyle stable in 1996 where he was second jockey after Christy Roche.
Kevin James Manning is a retired Irish flat racing jockey. Manning rode principally for the stable of Jim Bolger. He won both the Epsom Derby and the Irish Derby.
Declan McDonogh in County Meath is an Irish jockey who competes in Flat racing. McDonogh rode his first winner at Leopardstown Racecourse in June 1995 and has worked for trainers Kevin Prendergast, John Oxx and Joseph O'Brien. He was Irish flat racing Champion Jockey in the 2006 season.
Jim Crowley is an English jockey who was British flat racing Champion Jockey in 2016. He has ridden as first jockey to Shadwell since 2016.

No Speak Alexander is an Irish Thoroughbred racehorse. She showed some promise as a juvenile in 2020 when she won one minor race from five attempts. In the following year she developed into a high-class performer, winning the Athasi Stakes and running third in the Irish 1000 Guineas before recording her biggest success in the Matron Stakes.

La Petite Coco is an Irish Thoroughbred racehorse. She finished sixth on her only appearance as a juvenile in 2020 but made good progress in the following year, winning minor races in May and July and going on to take the Give Thanks Stakes and the Blandford Stakes. On her first run as a four-year-old she won the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes.
