The Bio-Strath Circuit [1] was a series tour of British tennis tournaments sponsored by the Swiss company Bio-Strath AG, [2] a producer natural food supplements for sports people from 1970 to 1971. The circuit usually began in mid spring in April and ended in late summer in early August.

History

The Bio-Strath tennis circuit was a series tour of British tennis tournaments that was sponsored by the Swiss company Bio-Strath AG. [3] the circuit was inaugurated in May 1970 with six Midland tournaments, and one South East tournament. [4]

Each tournament being a particular leg on the circuit beginning with the 1st leg, that usually started around early April, and ending with the 10th and final leg around the first week of August. In 1971 the circuit was extended to include two new North West England tournaments at Lytham St Annes, and The Bio-Strath Northern at Manchester, one new tournament in South Yorkshire the Bio-Strath Sheffield Tournament at Sheffield, [5] another new event

Another new tournament was added for London the Bio-Strath Cumberland Hard Courts, In South Wales the Bio-Strath Cardiff tournament was added to the circuit, and another new event for North East England, the Bio-Strath Sunderland and Durham tournament The same year the Edgbaston tournament in the West Midlands was withdrawn, and replaced by the Bio-Strath Stourbridge tournament. In October 1971 Bio-Strath AG decided not to renew its sponsorship agreement with tournaments, due to disagreements of prize money and the circuit was discontinued.

1970 Bio Strath circuit

The Bio-Strath Circuit [6] was part of the 1970 British Tournament Season. It began on 4 May in Birmingham, West Midlands, England with the first leg being the Bio-Strath Tally Ho event, and ended on 8 August with the tenth and final being the Bio-Strath West Warwickshire Open at Solihull. [7]

1971 Bio Strath circuit

The Bio-Strath Circuit was part of the 1971 British Tournament Season. The first leg of the circuit began on 9 April with the Bio-Strath Tally Ho event, and ended on 7 August with the thirteenth and final leg the Bio-Strath West Warwickshire Open at Solihull.

The Japan Open is a men's tennis tournament held in Ariake Tennis Forest Park with its center court Ariake Coliseum, located in Koto, Tokyo. The historical precursor event, the All-Japan Championships was founded in 1915, then later became the Japan International Championships. After being discontinued in 2008, it was downgraded in 2011 to ATP Challenger Tour and ITF Women's Circuit. briefly re-established as an ATP World Tour 250 event on the men's tour in 2015 and 2016, before returning to a Challenger event in 2017, and since 2015 it has been an international event on the women's tour. The tournament is held in June as a "warm-up" for Wimbledon.

The Grand Prix Super Series of men's tennis tournaments was part of the Grand Prix and World Championship Tennis tours between 1970 and 1989. They were held annually throughout the year in Europe, North America, Africa and Asia. These tournaments were the most prestigious and highest level events of the Grand Prix Tour after the majors and year-end championships. They had six name changes from 1970 through to 1977: Group One, Group B, Group A, Group AA, 5 Star and 6 Star, before settling on a consistent naming format called "Super Series" from 1978 until 1989.

The 1970 ILTF Women's Tennis Circuit was the 57th season since the formation of the International Lawn Tennis Federation in 1913, and the 96th season since the first women's tournaments were held in 1876.

The Midland Counties Championships also known as the Midland International was a grass court tennis tournament held at Edgbaston Cricket and Lawn Tennis Club, Edgbaston, Great Britain from 1881 to 1977.

The London Hard Court Championships and later known as the Bio-Strath London Hard Court Championships for sponsorship reasons was a clay court tennis event founded in 1919. It was held at the Hurlingham Club Ranelagh Gardens, Fulham, London, England through until 1971, when it failed find new sponsors for the following season, and the tournament ended.

The Tally-Ho! Open Tennis Championships also known as the Tally-Ho! Hard Courts, was a combined men's and women's clay court tennis tournament originally founded in 1923. The tournament was held at the Tally Ho Lawn Tennis Club, Edgbaston, Birmingham, England until 1982.

The Wolverhampton Open was a combined men's and women's grass court tennis tournament founded in 1897 as the Wolverhampton Lawn Tennis Tournament. The first tournament was staged at Parkdale, Wolverhampton from 1897 to 1900 before it was discontinued in 1900. In 1903 a second tournament was revived and played in Newbridge, in Wolverhampton, where it ran until 1974.

The Sheffield and Hallamshire Championships was an open men's and women's international grass court tennis tournament founded in 1888 as the Sheffield and Hallamshire Tournament. The tournament was played at the Sheffield and Hallamshire Lawn Tennis Club (f.1885), Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England until 1976 when it was discontinued.

The West Warwickshire Open was a tennis tournament also known as the Hill Samuel Life Assurance West Warwickshire Open for sponsorship reasons. It began in 1970 and was staged at the West Warwickshire Sports Club (f.c1888), Solihull, Midlands, England. The tournament ran until 1981 when it was discontinued.

The Stourbridge Open also known as the Trophee Pernod Stourbridge for sponsorship reasons, was a mens and womens grass court tennis tournament founded in September 1887 as the Stourbridge Lawn Tennis Tournament, and first staged at the Stourbridge Cricket Club (f.1888) grounds, Stourbridge in what was then Worcestershire, but is now part of the West Midlands, England. This tournament has not had a continual history, being established then discontinued on four occasions. The last tournament took place in 1981.

The Droitwich Open also known as the Droitwich Spa Open was a combined men's and women's tennis tournament founded in 1928 as the Droitwich Open Lawn Tennis Tournament or Droitwich Spa Open Open Lawn Tennis Tournament. The tournament was organised by the Droitwich Spa Lawn Tennis Club, and played at the Brine Baths Park, Droitwich Spa, Worcesteshire, England. The tournament ran until 1939 just before World War II then was discontinued.

It was played at the Cumberland Club, Hampstead, London, England until tournament ended in 1986.

The St. Annes Open also known as the St. Annes on Sea Open was a men's and women's grass court tennis tournament founded as in 1932. It was played at the St. Anne's Lawn Tennis Club, Lytham St Annes, Lancashire, England until the tournament ended in 1974.

The Durham and Cleveland Championships was a men's and women's grass court tennis tournament founded as in 1900 as the Durham County Association Tournament In 1903 that event became the Durham County Lawn Tennis Championships. It was first played at the Ashbrooke Sports Club Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, England until the tournament ended in 1982.

The Keswick Open also known as the Keswick and Lake District Lawn Tennis Tournament was a men's and women's grass court tennis tournament founded in 1888. The tournament was organised by the Keswick Lawn Tennis Club, and played annually at Fitz Park, Keswick, Cumbria, England until 1910.

The Keswick Open Hard Courts was a men's and women's clay court tennis tournament founded in 1934 as the Lakeland Open. The tournament was organised by the Keswick Lawn Tennis Club, and played at Fitz Park, Keswick, Cumbria, England. It was played annually until 1967.

The Poole Open was a men's and women's clay court tennis tournament founded in 1970. In 1970 the tournament was branded as the En-Tout-Cass Trophy Poole, and was third leg of the En-Tout-Cass Circuit that year. The tournament was played at the East Dorset Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club (f.1909), Poole, Great Britain until 1971.

The Cardiff Open was a men's and women's grass court tennis tournament was founded in 1929 as the Cardiff LTC Tournament. It played annually through till 1975 when it was discontinued. The tournament was played at the Cardiff Lawn Tennis Club, Cardiff, Great Britain. It played annually through till 1972 when it was discontinued.
