Biplab Udyan is a park in Chittagong, Bangladesh. It is located near gate number 2 of the city. [1] The park was built in memory of Pritilata Waddedar, a revolutionary woman of the Indian independence movement in Chittagong.

History

The park was opened in 1979. [1] [2] In 1 November 2018, [3] Dhaka's Reform Limited and Chittagong Style living Architects Limited took a 20-year lease on the park from the Chittagong City Corporation. The park was modernized in late 2019 by the Chittagong City Corporation. [2] In 2020, authorities started to build food courts and gaming zone there, resulting criticisms. [4] In 22 August 2023, authorities decided to reconstruct the park to restore its old greenish state. [3] In the same year an agreement was signed with Reform for that purpose. Chittagong's civil society and urban planners protested the construction of 55% of the park's structures in violation of the law and continued construction. [5]

Description

The 2 acres (0.81 ha) park and surrounding sidewalks include approx. 1 acre (0.40 ha) The land was allocated to these two institutions. [1] [6]

The Udyan contains many species of flowering plants. The Arch is made of trees, and the gate is inscribed with trees 'revolution garden'. There are also concrete awnings. There is a separate area for children. [2] There is free admission. The park is open to visitors after four o'clock in the afternoon. There is a sculpture called Swadhinata Stambha (Independence Pillar). The history of Bangladesh Victory Day in 1971 from language movement of 1952 to 1971 has been highlighted in the park. [2]

The Bangladesh Premier League 2019–20, also known as BPL Season 7 or Bangabandhu BPL Presented by AKASH DTH and Powered by TVS, was the seventh season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), the top level professional Twenty20 cricket league in Bangladesh. Kala bhuna is a meat curry made of beef or mutton, originated in Chittagong, Bangladesh. Different types of spices are needed to prepare this traditional dish of Chittagong. In Bengali, the word kala or kalo means black and bhuna means deep fry. Kala bhuna gets its name from its appearance, as the meat goes blackish during a long process of deep frying it with a plenty of spices. It has become popular also in other Bangladeshi cities like Sylhet, Khulna, Dhaka etc. Nowadays, this dish is also a favorite delicacy in mezbans, weddings, eids and in sehri or iftar during the time of Ramadan. Usually, Kala bhuna is eaten with plain rice, polao, porota, naan or ruti.

Al Manahil Welfare Foundation Bangladesh is a non-profit charitable organization that was established in 1998 by Jamir Uddin Nanupuri, a spiritual leader, in the Fatikchhari Upazila of Chittagong, Bangladesh. Bangaboltu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar (BSMSN) is an economic zone in Chittagong Division of Bangladesh, spanning 33,407 acres (135.19 km2). Situated along the Dhaka–Chittagong highway, the economic zone is positioned about 60 kilometres (37 mi) away from the port city of Chittagong. It is being developed under the oversight of the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA). By 2024, various companies have collectively invested US$1.23 billion, with five industrial units already operational.

Domasa/Domachha is a popular Bengali curry made with a combination of fresh fish and dried fish. It is very popular in the districts of Chittagong, Noakhali and Feni. This dish is cooked with various seasonal vegetables including potatoes, beans, tomatoes etc.
