History
Bishop Maginn was named after the former Auxiliary Bishop of Albany Edward Joseph Maginn. Two former high schools operated by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany, Vincentian Institute (VI) and Cardinal McCloskey High School, were merged in 1977, creating Bishop Maginn High School in the former McCloskey building. Declining enrollments and an aging Vincentian building made it necessary for the Diocese to use the newer McCloskey building for the new school. The first graduating class from Bishop Maginn was the Class of 1978. Formerly rivals, the students from both VI and McCloskey accepted each other in a harmonious display of unity, adopting an enthusiastic spirit for the new school. When the merger was announced in the spring of 1977, two McCloskey students had the idea to combine the mascots of the two schools - VI's lion and McCloskey's cardinal. David Strazzeri and Mark Kulzer researched and presented several images of the mythical creature to the merger committee. One would become the official Bishop Maginn Griffin insignia and mascot. The coat of arms for the newly created school contains the line 'Veni Lumen Cordium', which in Latin means 'Come light of the heart'.
In 2015, it was announced that due to declining enrollment and financial difficulties, Bishop Maginn would move to the former Cathedral Academy building in downtown Albany. [5] The school relocated to the former Cathedral Academy for the 2015–2016 school year. [6] [7] Bishop Maginn's former building on Slingerland Street was leased to Green Tech High Charter School in March 2016. [7]
The school was noted for its Karen population from Myanmar, [8] for which much of the baseball team was Karen refugees. [9]
On February 16, 2022, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany announced that Bishop Maginn High School would close at the end of the 2021-2022 school year. Declining enrollment was cited as the reason. The school officially closed its doors on June 30, 2022. [10] [11]

Academy of the Holy Names, or AHN, in Albany, New York, United States, is an independent, Middle States accredited Catholic girls' college-preparatory school for girls in grades 6–12. It is located within the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany. The school was founded in 1884 by the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary. The mission of AHN is to prepare its students to become cultural, intellectual, moral, and spiritual leaders. Current enrollment for the 2024–2025 school year is 232 students.
John Timon, C.M. was a prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as the bishop of the new Diocese of Buffalo in Western New York and founder of the brothers of the Holy Infancy religious order.
Vincentian Academy was a Catholic college preparatory school in McCandless, Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was located in the Dioceze of Pittsburgh. In February 2020, the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth announced the school would cease operations after the 2019-2020 school year.
Bishop Timon – St. Jude High School is a Roman Catholic Franciscan high school for young men administered and staffed by the Order of Friars Minor located in South Buffalo, New York. Bishop Timon High School, as it was originally known, was founded in 1946 by the Franciscan.
Christian Brothers Academy is a private, Catholic, college preparatory, junior and senior high school for boys founded in 1859 by the De La Salle Christian Brothers. Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) is located in the town of Colonie, New York near the Albany International Airport on a 126-acre (0.51 km2) campus built in 1998. Christian Brothers Academy is independently run by a board of trustees.
The Seminario de San Vicente Ferrer, also known as San Vicente Ferrer, Seminario or Saint Vincent, is a college-seminary of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Jaro located in Iloilo City. It was founded in 1869 and is the first institution of higher education in the Western Visayas. It is the fifth oldest and the last seminary that was established during the Spanish colonial period in the Philippines. The Seminarians serve the nearby Jaro Cathedral which houses the miraculous statue of Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria de Jaro, the official roman catholic patron of Western Visayas.
Quigley Catholic High School was located in Baden, Pennsylvania. It was the only Roman Catholic high school in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. The school opened in 1967 and was named after Monsignor Thomas J. Quigley, and it closed after on May 29, 2020.
Catholic Central School was a private, centrally located pre-K-12 regional Catholic school in Latham, New York, within the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany. It was formed in 2022 with the merger of Saint Ambrose elementary school in Latham with Catholic Central High School in Troy, New York. The new school is located on the grounds of the former Saint Ambrose School. The school's Troy property was put up for sale in March 2022, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2024.
Lebanon Catholic School was a private, Roman Catholic high school in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, United States. It was located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg. It closed in 2020.
Holy Cross High School is a Roman Catholic secondary school located in Dunmore, Pennsylvania. It operates under the jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Scranton, and is the second largest of four diocesan high schools in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The Holy Cross School System has included five feeder schools since the 2011-2012 school year: All Saints Academy, Scranton; LaSalle Academy, Dickson City and Jessup; Our Lady of Peace, Clarks Summit; St. Clare/St. Paul, Scranton; and St. Mary of Mount Carmel, Dunmore.
Marian Catholic High School is a private, Roman Catholic high school in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania. It is located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Allentown. It was established in 1954 after the consolidation of St. Jerome's High School in Tamaqua, St. Mary's High School in Coaldale, and St. Ann's High School in Lansford. Its original location consisted of a three town campus located in the towns of Tamaqua, Coaldale, and Lansford. Marian Catholic's current campus was constructed on farmland in Rush Township in 1964.

The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is a Catholic church near the Mansion District in Albany, New York, United States. Built in the period of the 1848-1852, it is the mother church of the Diocese of Albany. In 1976 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
