The University of Texas at Austin was originally conceived in 1827 under an article in the Constitución de Coahuila y Texas to open a public university in the state of Texas. Hymns is an indie rock band based in Brooklyn, New York. Originally consisting of North Carolina natives Brian Harding and Jason Roberts, the band picked up Texas-based rockers Tony Kent (drums) and Matt Shaw upon arriving in New York City. Since debuting with the "infectious" Brother/Sister the Hymns have been steadily gaining in popularity, appearing with such headliners as Ben Kweller, Hot Hot Heat, Beck, and the Sam Roberts Band. In 2008, the band released their second album, Travel in Herds, on the Blackland Records label. Spin Magazine named them as one of the artists to watch in 2008.

Blackland is an unincorporated community in Blue Mound Township, Macon County, Illinois, United States. The community is on County Route 27 4.3 miles (6.9 km) north-northeast of Blue Mound.

Blackland is a town and near-ghost town in Rockwall County, Texas, United States. It is located approximately four miles southeast of Rockwall, Texas, the county seat on State Highway 276. The town had a population of 49 residents in the 1990 census. The Texas State Historical Association maintains an article on the town on their website.

Blackland is a historically black neighborhood on the east side of Austin, Texas, located north of Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, south of Manor Road, east of I-35, and west of Chestnut Street. The neighborhood was originally known as Blacklands and was settled by Swedish immigrants, but evolved into a predominantly African-American neighborhood following the 1928 Austin city plan, which called for the relocation of non-white residents to the east side of the city. Up until the 1980s, the neighborhood was targeted for demolition to make way for an expansion of the University of Texas campus. In 1983, the Blackland Community Development Corporation was formed to build, purchase and maintain housing for low-income families and special populations.
