Blacktail Mountain Ski Area is an alpine ski area in northwestern Montana rising above the western shore of Flathead Lake.

Lifts and Trails

Blacktail mountain has four ski lifts, one triple chair, two double chairs, and one handle tow. The triple chair, called Olympic, runs up the centre of the ski area, with the two double chairs, Thunderhead and Crystal, to the west and east of Olympic, respectively. The rope tow runs on a small training hill for beginner skiers. [1] The ski area has 26 runs, 15% beginner, 65% intermediate, 20% expert, and also includes a terrain park. [2] Two of the expert trails run through an open field of trees that can be skied through. [1]

It is the largest night ski area in the United States, and the total skiable area encompasses an area of 960 acres (388 ha). The resort is the closest ski venue to Portland, with an elevation of 3,600 feet (1,097 m) at the lodge, rising to just over 5,000 feet (1,524 m) at the summit. The average snowfall at the area is 300 inches (762 cm), with an average consolidated base around 100 inches (254 cm) and 65 marked trails. The area is also popular for summer recreation with mountain biking. An adventure park in the area includes alpine slides, zip-line, and bungee jumping. As well as other outdoor activities. Just across the highway is Government Camp, the focal point of Mount Hood.

Hoodoo (ski area) ski resort

Hoodoo is a ski resort in the northwest United States, in the central Cascade Range of Oregon. Located near the summit of Santiam Pass on U.S. Route 20, the ski area operates on federal land through agreement with Willamette National Forest on Hoodoo Butte, a volcanic cinder cone. Hoodoo's slopes primarily face northeast.

Cannon Mountain Ski Area

Cannon Mountain Ski Area is a state-owned ski resort located on Cannon Mountain in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, United States. Cannon is located within Franconia Notch State Park and offers 10 lifts servicing 265 acres (1.07 km2) of skiing. Cannon has 23 miles (37 km) of trails and a north-northeast exposure and has the only aerial tram in New Hampshire. Cannon has the most vertical of any ski area in New Hampshire, 2,330 feet (710 m), and is the seventh largest in New England. US Olympic skier Bode Miller grew up skiing at Cannon.

Sunday River is a ski resort located in Newry, Maine, in the United States. It is one of Maine's largest and most visited ski resorts. Its vertical drop of 2,340 feet (710 m) is the second largest in Maine and the sixth largest in New England. Sunday River has to most terrain out of the East Coast skiing and 6 different peaks. The resort features 135 trails across eight interconnected mountain peaks, and is serviced by a network of 15 lifts.

Grouse Mountain Mountain in British Columbia, Canada

Grouse Mountain is one of the North Shore Mountains of the Pacific Ranges in the District Municipality of North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. With a maximum elevation of over 1,200 m at its peak, the mountain is the site of an alpine ski area, Grouse Mountain Resort, which overlooks Metro Vancouver has four chairlifts servicing 33 runs. In the summer, Grouse Mountain Resort features lumberjack shows, the "Birds in Motion" birds of prey demonstration, a scenic chairlift ride, disc golf, mountain biking, zip lining, tandem paragliding, helicopter tours, and guided ecowalks. Year-round operations include a 100-seat mountaintop theatre and a wildlife refuge. The mountain operates two aerial tramways, known officially as the Skyride. The Blue Skyride is used mainly for freight transportation, while public access to the mountain top is provided by the Swiss-built Garaventa Red Skyride, which has a maximum capacity of 101 passengers. Summer access is also provided by the 2.9 kilometre Grouse Grind hiking trail, which is open for hiking from May to October.
