Named Scottsdale in 1894 after its founder Winfield Scott, a retired U.S. Army chaplain, the city was incorporated in 1951 with a population of 2,000. At the 2020 census, the population was 241,361, which had grown from 217,385 in 2010. Its slogan is "The West's Most Western Town". Over the past two decades, it has been one of the fastest growing cities in the United States.

William Ray Engvall Jr. is a retired American stand-up comedian, actor, and television host. Engvall has released a number of stand-up comedy albums through Warner Records and the defunct BNA Records. His commercially successful album is the 1996 debut Here's Your Sign, certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. The album derives its name from Engvall's signature routine "here's your sign", wherein he offers "signs" to people whom he deems lacking in intellect. He has toured as a comedian both by himself and as a member of Blue Collar Comedy Tour, which included Jeff Foxworthy, Larry the Cable Guy, and Ron White. The Blue Collar Comedy Tour was an American comedy troupe, featuring Jeff Foxworthy with three of his comedian friends, Bill Engvall, Ron White, and Larry the Cable Guy, who had replaced fellow comedian Craig Hawksley, who performed in the first 26 shows on the tour. The troupe toured together for six years beginning in January 2000 in Omaha, before finishing in 2006 at the Warner Theatre in Washington D.C. The troupe also created the CMT show Bounty Hunters.

Travis Randall is an American actor and musician. He was born in Spooner, Wisconsin. In 2008 he was a regular on Spike Network's MANswers as the exotic food expert appearing in multiple episodes. In 2005 he appeared in the film Never Been Thawed that was directed and written by Sean Anders who would go on to write and direct Sex Drive as well as projects such as Mr. Popper's Penguins, Hot Tub Time Machine, She's Out of My League, and Dumb and Dumber To. Sean and Travis were in the band Stone Bogart together. They made music and covered such songs as Monty Python's "The Lumberjack Song." Travis is also an acclaimed chef with a cookbook due in late 2015 according to his website. Travis also has a BBQ sauce available through his website. He regularly appears on radio and TV segments about food nationally. As of 2011 he was teaching grilling classes periodically in Scottsdale, Arizona.

The film stars René Auberjonois in the role of the title character, James Buchanan, the 15th president of the United States, and was his final role released in his lifetime. He died in December 2019. The film was Bruce Dellis' first full-length feature. Raising Buchanan was filmed in and near Phoenix, Arizona.
