Bonanza High School is a high school in the Las Vegas Valley. It was built in 1976 and was the ninth high school to open in the area.

Contents

History

Bonanza opened in 1976, and is built in the same configuration as Eldorado High School, Basic High School and Vo-Tech high schools. In the 2004–2005 school year, many former Bonanza students were zoned to attend the newly opened Spring Valley High School.[ citation needed ]

Athletics

The Bonanza Bengals compete in Sunset 4A Region of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA).

Bonanza's mascot is the Bengal. When the school first opened in the 1970s it won many state championships in basketball, wrestling, volleyball, tennis, and golf.[ citation needed ] Today Bonanza Athletics are best known for its Tennis and Lacrosse programs, with the varsity Tennis team winning the 4A Nevada State Championship in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2008, the Men's Lacrosse team winning state 3 consecutive times in 2007, 2008, and the Women's Lacrosse team 4 consecutive times in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008.[ citation needed ]

The Sunset 4A Region is a part of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association and is one of two conferences in Southern Nevada 4A high school athletics. The Sunset Region consists of large schools in the western parts of Las Vegas and North Las Vegas and Pahrump, Nevada. There are two division in the Sunset 4A Region, Northwest and Southwest. The Sunset 4A Region was a part of the Southern Nevada 4-A Region, until the conference was divided into two separate regions due to the constant expansion and development of new high schools in the Las Vegas metro.

The Sunrise 4A Region is a part of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association and is one of two conferences in Southern Nevada 4A high school athletics. The Sunrise Region consists of large schools in Henderson, Nevada and on the eastern parts of Las Vegas and North Las Vegas, Nevada. There are two division in the Sunrise 4A Region, Northeast and Southeast. The Sunrise 4A Region was a part of the Southern Nevada 4-A Region, until the conference was divided into two separate regions before the 2000-01 school year due to the constant expansion and development of new high schools in the Las Vegas Valley. Sunrise Mountain High School joined the Northeast Division most recently, during the 2009-10 school year.

Western High School is a public high school under the Clark County School District in Nevada, United States. The school opened in 1960, and was the third high school built in Las Vegas, Nevada, after Las Vegas High School (1931) and Rancho High School (1954). The campus is located at 4601 West Bonanza Road, Las Vegas, Nevada. In March 2011 Western was identified as one of five "persistently" low-performing schools in Clark County, Nevada, eligible for federal School Improvement grants. Under the turnaround model for school improvement Western introduced a curriculum of science, technology, engineering and math.
