The Book of Angels is an album released by popular Soca artist Machel Montano from Trinidad and Tobago in 2007. [1] The album marked Machel Montano's 25th [2] year in the Music industry and was his first album under a Machel Montano HD re-branding. The album was launched at Trinidad's Club Zen on 27 February 2007 and reportedly sold out within days of its release. [3] The album was relaunched in New York City on 25 March 2007 for the North American market. [4]
The song Jumbie on the album won Trinidad's 2007 Road March Competition for Trinidad and Tobago Carnival. [5]
The album features several solo tracks as well as collaborations with several popular artists: Jamaicans Sizzla & Vybz Kartel, American M.O.P., Trinidadians Patrice Roberts & Nadia Madoo and Japan's Minmi.
Michiko Evwana, better known by her stage name Minmi, is a Japanese hip-hop and reggae musician, as well as a singer-songwriter and record producer. She is the first soca artist from Japan. Since 2007, she has been married to Wakadanna (若旦那), a member of Japanese reggae group Shōnan no Kaze.
"Roll It Gal" is a song written by Shontelle Layne and Sheldon Benjamin, containing a sample of Benjamin's "Big Love". The song was originally recorded by soca singer Alison Hinds and was taken from her debut album Soca Queen. The single was released by Hinds in 2005 in Barbados and in the United Kingdom in 2007. A music video was produced for Hinds' version of the song in 2005. The Hinds version of "Roll It Gal" shot to the top of the charts in Barbados, Trinidad and throughout the Caribbean.
