Borneo Jazz Festival is a 2-night festival of 4 performances in each night by local and international jazz musicians at Parkcity Everly hotel in Miri, Sarawak. [1] [2] The festival is one of the longest running Jazz festival in the region. [3] The 2019 edition of the festival will be held on 19 to 21 July. [4]

History

Borneo Jazz Festival was started in 2006. [5] The event is organised by the Sarawak Tourism Board, endorsed by Tourism Malaysia and is jointly supported by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Malaysia and Ministry of Tourism, Sarawak. [6] The festival was formerly known as Miri International Jazz Festival before it was renamed to Borneo Jazz Festival in 2011. [7]

The Borneo Jazz is wholly owned by Sarawak Tourism Board and organised by No Black Tie. [8]

Programme

In 2018 the festival introduced Borneo Jazz Talent Search as part of their musical outreach programme. For 2019 edition, the festival’s music outreach will expand to include the Borneo Jazz DJ Search. [9]

The festival attendance has grown steadily from 3,000 spectators in 2006 to 8,000 spectators in 2014. [10]

Kuching City and state capital in Sarawak, Malaysia

Kuching, officially the City of Kuching, is the capital and the most populous city in the state of Sarawak in Malaysia. It is also the capital of Kuching Division. The city is on the Sarawak River at the southwest tip of the state of Sarawak on the island of Borneo and covers an area of 431 square kilometres (166 sq mi) with a population about 165,642 in the Kuching North administrative region and 159,490 in the Kuching South administrative region—a total of 325,132 people.

Sibu City in Sarawak, Malaysia

Sibu is an inland city in the central region of Sarawak. It is the capital of Sibu District in Sibu Division, Sarawak, Malaysia. The city is located on the island of Borneo and covers an area of 129.5 square kilometres (50.0 sq mi). It is located at the confluence of the Rajang and Igan Rivers, some 60 kilometres from the South China Sea and approximately 191.5 kilometres (119 mi) north-east of the state capital Kuching. Marudi Town in Sarawak, Malaysia

Marudi is a town in the Malaysian state of Sarawak. It is located on the banks of Baram River, about 100 kilometres (62 mi) upstream from the river mouth. Bario Town in Sarawak, Malaysia

The festival has been awarded 25 of the best International Festivals by Songlines for six consecutive years; from 2010 to 2015.

Mukah (muːkəh), formerly known as Muka is a coastal town which serves as the capital and the administrative center of the Mukah Division since 1 March 2002.

Borneo Cultural Festival or simplified as BCF is the annual festival of food and music which is held in Sibu, Sarawak on every July–August every year since 2003. The festival is organised by the Sibu Municipal Council. The main scope of BCF is to gather the community of Sarawak mainly in Sibu which is generally came from different ethnic and background, serving the society with a multicultural dance, music and traditional food. It's one of the biggest traditional and yet prestiged festival event in Sibu, Sarawak.

Sarawak exhibits notable diversity in ethnicity, culture, and language. The Sarawakian culture has been influenced by Bruneian Malays of the coastal areas. Substantial cultural influences also came from the Chinese and British cultures.

Larissa Ping Liew is a Malaysian model, fashion blogger and beauty pageant titleholder, who was crowned Miss World Malaysia 2018. She represented Malaysia at the global Miss World 2018 pageant, where she placed in the Top 30.

Miss Cultural Harvest Festival is a Malaysian ethnic beauty pageant held annually during the Sarawak Harvest and Folklore Festival since 1999.

Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew is a Malaysian lawyer and politician from the Sarawak United Peoples' Party (SUPP), a component party of the ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition. He has served as State Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts of Sarawak in charge of Tourism in the GPS administration under Chief Minister Abang Abdul Rahman Johari Abang Openg and Minister Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah since January 2022 and Member of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Piasau since May 2016. He served as State Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture of Sarawak from August 2019 to December 2021. He has also served as Secretary-General of SUPP since September 2014.
