Brace (formerly known as Brace For War) was an Australian mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion. Brace was founded in 2005 by Kya Pate. In an interview with MMA Kanvas Kya Pate detailed what it is like to be the promoter of Australian MMA. [1]
Since 2009 Brace has staged 50 events in 9 cities over 4 Australian States. After following the standard MMA format, in 2014 Brace changed to an elimination tournament format based on the style of AFL, NRL, A-League soccer. [2] 8 Fighters per division compete in knock out elimination rounds all aiming to reach an end of season Grand Final event. [3]
Brace follows the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts.
Brace is broadcast live on Network TEN exclusively in Australia and Fight Network based out of Canada
In November 2014, Brace signed a multi year multi event broadcast deal with Network TEN (a major Australian TV network), this is the first for any MMA event within Australia [4]
UFC Fight Pass will begin streaming Brace MMA live events and the promotion’s fight library later in 2015. [5] [6] [7]

Randall Duane Couture is an American mixed martial arts commentator, actor, former United States Army sergeant, former professional mixed martial artist, and former collegiate and Greco-Roman wrestler. During his tenures in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), he became a three-time UFC Heavyweight Champion, two-time UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, an interim UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, making him a six-time UFC Champion and the UFC 13 Heavyweight Tournament winner. He is the first of nine fighters to hold two UFC championship titles in two different divisions. He currently serves as a commentator and analyst for the Professional Fighters League.
Shooto is a combat sport and mixed martial arts organization that is governed by the Shooto Association and the International Shooto Commission (ISC). Shooto was originally formed in 1985, first as a particular fighting system and then in 1989 as a mixed martial arts promotion. It is considered one of the first true mixed martial arts competitions, with its Vale Tudo Japan events being essential to the rise of Pride Fighting Championships and the development of modern MMA. Many Japanese MMA fighters had their start at Shooto and the organization still holds both professional and amateur tournaments.
