Brandix Apparel Limited is an apparel manufacturer headquartered in Sri Lanka. [7] [8] The company has branches in the United States of America, United Kingdom, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, India, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Mauritius, and the Cayman Islands. It is the single largest employer in Sri Lanka's export sector and the highest foreign exchange earning company. [9] [ citation needed ][ dubious – discuss ]
Brandix was founded in Sri Lanka in 1969 with the assistance of Martin Trust, an American who is regarded as the father of the modern apparel industry in Sri Lanka. [10] The company began operations in 1972 as a conglomerate which was formally a part of Omar Group.
The business was incorporated as a private limited company in 2002 under the Companies Act No 7 of 2007 as Brandix Pvt Ltd. In 2008, the firm opened a branch in Seeduwa and the branch of the Brandix firm secured the world's first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) platinum certification. Moose Clothing Company, which was established in 2018, is a subsidiary of Brandix Lanka Limited. [20] Moose Clothing became a co-sponsor of South African cricket tour of Sri Lanka in 2018. [21] In 2023, the company entered into the Singaporean market when it signed an agreement with Mustafa Centre. [22]
Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC (CBC) also known as ComBank is a licensed commercial bank in Sri Lanka and its ownership is private. It was incorporated as a public limited company and it is listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange. It is regarded as the largest private bank in Sri Lanka in terms of net worth and capital. The Batticaloa Campus initially known as Malik Abdulla University College named after king Abdullah of Saudi Arabia is a proposed private university under construction in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka. The establishment of the university came under media attention following the Easter Sunday bombings carried out by Islamist terrorist group National Thowheeth Jama'ath. Martin Trust also known as Marty Trust was an American business magnate entrepreneur and philanthropist who was also known for his contributions to the economy of Sri Lanka by modernising the country's apparel industry. He is also known as the 'father of the modern Sri Lankan apparel industry', as he was instrumental in making the country one of the global leaders in the apparel industry. He is still regarded as one of the pioneers of American fashion retail sector. He died on 12 September 2019 at his home at the age of 84 in Boston, US.
