The Daily News is an English-language newspaper in Sri Lanka. It is now published by the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (Lake House), a government-owned corporation. The newspaper commenced publishing on 3 January 1918. [1] D. R. Wijewardena was its founder.

Contents

The present-day newspaper is written as a broadsheet, with photographs printed both in color and black and white. Weekday printings include the main section, containing news on national affairs, international affairs, business, political analysis, sports, editorials and opinions. Every Thursday issue a free supplement in a tabloid paper called "Wisdom". In addition, the Daily News also provides The Sri Lanka Gazette as a supplement on every Friday. The current editor-in-chief of the daily news is Lalith Allahakkoon.

Since its founding, the Daily News has been housed and printed in the historic, colonial-era Lakehouse Building, adjacent to Beira Lake, in the Fort district of Colombo.

During the 2018 Sri Lankan constitutional crisis, loyalists of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa seized control of the Daily News and ousted journalists who were viewed as supporters of the new regime. [2]

<i>Dinamina</i> Sri Lankan newspaper

Dinamina is a Sinhala language daily newspaper in Sri Lanka. It is published by the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited, a government-owned corporation. The newspaper commenced publishing in 1909. It was founded by the Sinhalese scholar H. S. Perera who acted as both owner and editor-in-chief of the paper at the outset. Upon Perera's death in December 1914, D. R. Wijewardena bought out the company. It is now owned by the government of Sri Lanka.

Silumina is a Sinhala language weekly newspaper in Sri Lanka. It is published by the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited, a government-owned corporation. The newspaper commenced publishing in March 30 1930, D. R. Wijewardena being its founder. It currently has a circulation of 265,000. Famous novelists like Martin Wickramasinghe have served as its editor. Since 20th January 2020, Silumina Editor is Dharman Wickramaratne.

The Sri Lanka Gazette, officially The Gazette of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, is a public journal of the Government of Sri Lanka. It prints certain statutory notices from the government. Modeled after the Oxford Gazette, the Sri Lanka Gazette is the oldest surviving newspaper in Sri Lanka, having been published continuously since 1802. Premil Ratnayake,, was a Sri Lankan journalist, author, writer, diplomat, and former First Secretary. Ratnayake was a prominent journalist, having worked at The Lake House, The Daily News, and The Island. He also worked under Lalith Athulathmudali, as Press Secretary, at the Ministry of Trade and Shipping. In 1984 he was assigned to Bonn, Germany, as First Secretary, for Press and Information, on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Later while in retirement, he returned to The Daily News for a short period.

Bolgoda Lake or Bolgoda River is a freshwater lake in the Western Province of Sri Lanka, straddling the border between Colombo District and Kalutara District. It consists of two main bodies of water, a Northern portion and a Southern portion, connected by a waterway called Bolgoda River. The lake drains into the sea at the estuary in Panadura.

Annette Aurelia Abayasekara was a Sri Lankan journalist. She is considered the country's first female staff journalist, having started her career in 1947.
