Lanka Business Online (also commonly shortened LBO) is an online business news publisher based in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Founded in 1998, [1] it is currently one of the most popular English-language online business news website in Sri Lanka. [2] The website was founded by Lakshaman Bandaranayake, and is currently owned by Lanka Business Online (Private) Limited. [3]

SriLankan Airlines is the flag carrier of Sri Lanka and a member airline of the Oneworld airline alliance. It is currently the largest airline in Sri Lanka by number of aircraft and destinations and was launched in 1979 as Air Lanka following the termination of operations of the original Sri Lankan flag carrier Air Ceylon. The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) is the main stock exchange in Sri Lanka. It provides an electronic trading platform. The headquarters of the CSE have been located at the World Trade Center (Colombo) Towers in Colombo since 1995, and it also has branches across the country in Kandy, Jaffna, Negombo, Matara, Kurunegala, Anuradhapura and Ratnapura. The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) has 296 companies representing 20 business sectors. As of 25 January 2021, with a Market Capitalization of Rs. 3,699 Billion.

Mangala Samaraweera Sri Lankan politician

Mangala Pinsiri Samaraweera was a Sri Lankan politician. He was the first openly gay politician from Sri Lanka. He was the Minister of Finance from 2017 to 2019, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, for two terms from 2005 to 2007 and 2015 to 2017. He created a stir in Sri Lankan politics when he was sacked as a minister by President Mahinda Rajapakse in 2007, after which he formed a new political party called the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (Mahajana) Wing, which later merged with the United National Party in 2010.

Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena

Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena is a Sri Lankan politician and landed proprietor. He is the Current Speaker of the Sri Lankan Parliament. He first entered parliament in 1983 as the Hakmana United National Party and has been active in politics for more than 30 years.

Dhammika Perera Sri Lankan businessman

Kulappu Arachchige Don Dhammika Perera, commonly known as Dhammika Perera, is a Sri Lankan entrepreneur, business magnate, philanthropist, and Chairman/Managing Director of Vallibel One PLC. He is considered to be a very successful investor, which has made him one of the richest persons in Sri Lanka. He is known as an icon of expertise in corporate re-engineering and revival owing to his uncanny ability to choose his investment portfolio across sectors. He owns nearly 23 companies and is regarded as a pioneer of Sri Lankan economic growth after the end of Sri Lankan Civil War. He is also known for frequently addressing the required policy framework for the country.

Ranee Jayamaha also spelt as Rani Jayamaha is a Sri Lankan economist, author and banker. She served as the chairperson of Hatton National Bank from 2011 to 2015. In addition, she is currently an advisor to the President of Sri Lanka in Banking and a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (2004–2009). She has also served as a member of the Insurance Board of Sri Lanka and a member of Securities and Exchange Commission.

Deshamanya Weligamage Don Lakshman popularly known as Professor W. D. Lakshman is a Sri Lankan economist, professor, lecturer, academic and author who also served as the 15th Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and current chairman of the Monetary Board of the CBSL. He is regarded as one of the prominent economists of the country mainly well known for his immense contributions to policy related activities and for being specialised in the field of Economics.

Jayanthi Kuru-Utumpala Sri Lankan mountaineer and womens rights activist

Jayanthi Kuru-Utumpala is a Sri Lankan adventurer, professional rock climber, motivational speaker, and LGBT and women's rights activist. She is the first person from Sri Lanka to summit Mount Everest which she achieved on 21 May 2016. Kuru-Utumpala is an advocate for women's rights in Sri Lanka and has spent most of her adult life researching gender studies and women's rights. She formed a collaboration with fellow mountaineer Johann Peries for several expeditions.

Johann Peries, also spelt as Johann Pieris, is a Sri Lankan adventurer, mountaineer, and hair stylist. He formed a collaboration with Jayanthi Kuru-Utumpala for several expeditions of Mount Everest. In April 2016, the two became the first Sri Lankans to attempt to summit Everest. His attempt was unsuccessful, but Kuru-Utumpala managed to reach the summit. On 22 May 2018, climbing with his own support team, he became the first Sri Lankan man to summit Everest.

Embark

Embark is a Sri Lankan animal rescue and welfare organization. Since 2007, Embark has been conducting rescues, adoptions, sterilizations, vaccinations, education programmes and advocacy campaigns for the welfare of homeless dogs, cats and other animals. Embark was founded by the award-winning entrepreneur, conservationist and advocate Otara Gunewardene.

Taxation in Sri Lanka mainly includes excise duties, value added tax, income tax and tariffs. Tax revenue is a primary constituent of the government's fiscal policy. The Government of Sri Lanka imposes taxes mainly of two types in the forms of direct taxes and indirect taxes. As of 2018 CBSL report, taxes are the most important revenue source for the government, contributing 89% of the revenue. The tax revenue to GDP ratio is just about 11.6 percent as of 2018, which is one of the lowest rates among the upper-middle income earning countries. At present, the government of Sri Lanka also face major challenges regarding the continuous budget deficits where government expenditures have exceeded the government tax revenue.

Kasturi Angela Chellaraja Wilson is a businesswoman and the first female Group CEO of a public quoted conglomerate in Sri Lanka. At present she is the Managing Director of Hemas Pharmaceuticals PVT LTD and Hemas Surgicals and Diagnostics PVT LTD; subsidiaries of Hemas Holdings PLC. On 25 June 2020, it was announced that she would take over as Group CEO of Hemas Holdings PLC from current Group CEO, Steven Enderby; effective 1 October 2020. It was also announced that Kasturi would be appointed as a Non-Executive Director of Hemas Holdings PLC, effective from 1 July 2020.

Ishara Chinthaka Nanayakkara is a Sri Lankan entrepreneur and businessman. As of December 2019, he is the richest man in Sri Lanka. He is currently serving as the deputy group chairman of the LOLC Holdings. His father Rajah Nanayakkara was also a prominent businessman and he died in 2017 at the age of 77.

Edirisinghe Trust Investments Finance Limited also popularly known as ETI Finance is a Sri Lankan private limited company as well as a non banking financial institution which worked as a licensed finance company accepting deposits from general public. The company's business was primarily based on lending money on gold securities. On 13 July 2020, Central Bank of Sri Lanka decided to cancel the license of the company due to insufficient capital and financial problems regarding repaying depositors' money on demand as well as before maturity.

Mohamed Uvais Mohamed Ali Sabry, PC, MP is a Sri Lankan lawyer and politician. He is the current Minister of Justice and Member of Parliament, appointed from the national list of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna. He served as the defense counsel of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, chief legal adviser and President of the Muslim Federation of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.

Vallibel One

Vallibel One PLC is one of Sri Lanka's largest conglomerate companies. The company controls a massive subsidiaries chain and listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange since 2011. It has a market capitalisation of approximately Rs. 26.95 billion. The company wholly owns Hayleys Group (51.01%), L B Finance, Royal Ceramics Lanka, Delmege Limited and The Kingsbury Hotels. The company was included in S&P SL 20 index in 2018.
