Brandon United Football Club is a football club based in Brandon, County Durham, England. They are currently members of the Wearside League Premier Division and play at the Welfare Ground.
The club was established in 1968 as Rostrons Football Club, the works team of the waste paper company of the same name. [1] [2] They joined Division Three of the Durham & District Sunday League, winning the division in their first season. They went on to win Division Two the following season, [3] and were promoted to Division One. The mid-1970s saw Brandon win Division One four times in successive seasons between 1973–74 and 1976–77. They also won the Durham Sunday Cup in 1973–74, 1975–76 and 1976–77, [3] as well as the FA Sunday Cup in 1975–76. [2]
In 1977 the club joined the Northern Alliance, winning back-to-back championships in their first two seasons in the league, [4] also winning the League Cup in their first season. [3] Although they only finished fourth in 1979–80, the club entered the FA Cup for the first time, and reached the first round. Drawn at home to Bradford City, the match was moved to Spennymoor United's ground, with Bradford winning 3–0. [4] The season also saw them win the League Cup for a second time. [3]
In the summer of 1980 Brandon left the Northern Alliance to join the Northern Amateur League, but after a single season, [3] they were elected to the Wearside League. [5] Two seasons later, they moved up to Division Two of the Northern League. [4] After finishing fourth in 1983–84, they won the division the following season, and were promoted to the Premier Division. [4] In 1988–89 they reached the first round of the FA Cup again; after drawing 0–0 at Doncaster Rovers, the replay was also played at Doncaster's Belle Vue, with Rovers winning 2–1. [4]
Brandon were relegated to Division Two at the end of the 1993–94 season, but returned to Division One after winning Division Two in 1999–2000. The club were Division One champions in 2002–03, but finished bottom of Division One in 2005–06 and were relegated back to Division Two. [4] After finishing bottom of Division Two in 2023–24 they were relegated to the Premier Division of the Wearside League.

Newcastle Blue Star F.C. is a football club based in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. It was established in 1930 and joined the Wearside League in 1973. In 1978, the club won the FA Vase. Having won promotion to the Northern Premier League Premier Division at the end of the 2008–09 season via the play-offs, off field troubles led to the club winding up having never taken its place in the league. In 2018 the club was reborn from renaming club Hazlerigg Victory and bringing with it their players and management staff, playing games at Scotswood in the West End of the city. They currently play in the Northern League Division One, the ninth tier of the English football league system.
Washington Football Club is a football club based in Washington, Tyne and Wear, England. The club was formed by the local miners at the local "F-Pit" Colliery in the early 20th century as Washington Colliery F.C. The club's distinctive red colours were agreed upon on formation and a codicil written making the team strip of red shirts being in existence in perpetuity. The modern club was established in 1947 and joined the Wearside League in 1968. In the 1977–78 season, they reached the third round of the FA Vase. The club won promotion to the Northern Football League Division One after winning their last seven games of the 2014–15 season. It was their highest league standing since the 2003–04 season.

Easington Colliery Association Football Club is a football club based in Easington Colliery, County Durham, England. They are currently members of the Northern League Division One and play at Welfare Park.
Brantham Athletic Football Club is a football club based in Brantham, Suffolk, England. They are currently members of the Eastern Counties League Premier Division and play at Brantham Leisure Centre.
Gateshead Association Football Club was a football club based in Gateshead, County Durham, England. The club was formed in South Shields in 1899 as South Shields Adelaide Athletic. After success in the North Eastern League prior to World War I, they were voted into the Football League in 1919. Financial problems in the late 1920s saw the club relocate to Gateshead in 1930, adopting the name of their new town. They remained in the Football League until 1960, when they were surprisingly voted out of the Football League and replaced by Peterborough United, despite not having had to apply for re-election since 1937. They subsequently played in regional leagues before folding in 1973. In order to replace them, another South Shields club was then moved to Gateshead, becoming Gateshead United.
