J. Brent Crouch [1] (born January 8, 1975) [2] is an American volleyball coach, professor, and former indoor and beach volleyball player. He has been the head coach of Auburn women's volleyball team since 2020.
Crouch earned a bachelor's degree in history in 1998 and a master's in philosophy in 2000, both from Texas A&M, then went on to earn a doctorate in philosophy from Oregon in 2006. While a student at Texas A&M, he played for the school's club team from 1993 to 1997 and was named MVP of the Stephen F. Austin Tournament in 1997. He also competed on the beach from 2005 to 2007 in AVP and CBVA events and placed second at the 2005 California Cup state championship. [3]
Outside of volleyball, he has held various teaching positions in philosophy at Oregon, San Diego City College, and Saint Mary's (CA) since 2000. [3]
Crouch and his wife Marcy have two sons. [3]
Crouch was the assistant coach at St. Mary's (CA) from 2010 to 2013 for the indoor team and served as the head coach for the beach team in the 2012 inaugural season. The beach team garnered an 8–2 record, a No. 9 national ranking, and a bid to the AVCA national championship for the program's top pairs team.
During his time with the program, Saint Mary's went 73–40, finished top-3 in the WCC standings in each season and earned a berth into the NCAA Tournament in 2012. [3]
Crouch's first head coach role for an indoor NCAA Division I program began in 2014, when he inherited a winless program in Portland. The team improved each year and Crouch was named the West Coast Conference Coach of the Year in 2016 after the program had its winningest season in 25 years. [4]
Crouch was named the head coach at USC in 2018, succeeding previous head coach Mick Haley. In his two seasons at USC, the team advanced to the NCAA tournament, losing in the second round both years. Crouch coached 3 AVCA All Americans at USC (Brooke Botkin, 2018; Raquel Lazaro, 2018; Khalia Lanier, 2018 & 2019). [3]
Crouch resigned from the program following the 2019 season.
Crouch was named head coach of Auburn on January 14, 2020. [5]
In 2022, Crouch was named the AVCA South Region Coach of the Year after leading Auburn to a 22–9 overall record, 10–8 mark in the SEC and a sixth-place finish. Auburn's 22 victories were the most in the rally-scoring era and the most the program had since 1998. The Tigers earned a second time in program history and the first since 2010, the Tigers earned a berth to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010 and only the second time in program history. Auburn upset 14th ranked Creighton in the first round, earning its first win over a ranked opponent since 2017, before losing to Houston in five sets in the second round. [6]
Before coaching collegiately, Crouch held various coaching roles for girls' high school club teams and men's college club teams from 2004 to 2009. He was head coach of the San Diego City College men's team from 2006 to 2008 after serving as the head coach of Oregon's men's club team in 2004 and 2005. Crouch also has coaching experience with the USA Volleyball program. He was an assistant with the U.S. Collegiate National Team that captured a gold medal at the 2016 U22 Global Challenge and served as both an indoor and beach coach in the USA Volleyball High Performance program. The West Coast Conference (WCC) — known as the California Basketball Association from 1952 to 1956 and then as the West Coast Athletic Conference until 1989 — is a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with NCAA Division I consisting of nine member schools across the states of California, Oregon, and Washington.
Charles Frederick "Karch" Kiraly is an American volleyball player, coach, and broadcast announcer. He was a central part of the U.S National Team that won gold medals at the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games. He went on to win the gold medal again at the 1996 Olympic Games, the first Olympic competition to feature beach volleyball. He is the only player to have won Olympic medals of any color in both the indoor and beach volleyball categories. He played college volleyball for the UCLA Bruins, where his teams won three national championships under head coach Al Scates. Kiraly is widely regarded as the greatest male volleyball player of all time.
The Hawaii Rainbow Wahine volleyball team is an NCAA Division I women's volleyball team for the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. They are a member of the Big West Conference and are led by head coach, Robyn Ah M, Mow-Santos. The Rainbow Wahine volleyball program remains a large source of financial income for the University of Hawaii athletic department, even surpassing what football and men's basketball generates.
Fran Flory is an American retired head coach of the LSU Tigers women's indoor volleyball team and former head coach of the LSU Tigers women's beach volleyball team.

The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) is an organization of over 9,000 members, incorporated as a private non-profit educational corporation in 1981, as the Collegiate Volleyball Coaches Association. It is currently headquartered in Lexington, Kentucky.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers women's volleyball team competes as part of NCAA Division I, representing the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in the Big Ten. Nebraska plays its home games at the Bob Devaney Sports Center and has sold out every home match since 2001. The team has been coached by John Cook since 2000.
Jim McLaughlin is an American volleyball coach. He was most recently the head coach of the women's volleyball team at Notre Dame. McLaughlin was selected to be inducted into AVCA Hall of Fame in 2021.
The Auburn Tigers baseball team represents Auburn University in NCAA Division I college baseball. Along with most other Auburn athletic teams, the baseball team participates in the Western division of the Southeastern Conference. The Tigers play their home games on campus at Plainsman Park, and they are coached by Butch Thompson.
The Penn State Nittany Lions women's volleyball program has had a long tradition, founded in 1976 by Tom Tait, long-time coach of the Penn State men's team, who coached the women's team from 1976 to 1979 and was named a USA Volleyball All-Time great coach in 2007.
The Texas Longhorns women's volleyball team represents The University of Texas at Austin in NCAA Division I intercollegiate women's volleyball competition. The Longhorns competed in the Big 12 Conference through the 2023 season and moved to the Southeastern Conference (SEC) on July 1, 2024.
Michael Robert Hebert was an American volleyball coach. He is considered to be one of the "architects" of modern high-competitive professional volleyball. Hebert coached the Pittsburgh (1976–1979) men and women teams, New Mexico (1980–1982) women's team, Illinois (1983–1995) women's team, and Minnesota (1996–2010) women's team before announcing his retirement at the conclusion of the 2010 season.
Minnesota Golden Gophers volleyball is the NCAA Division I women's volleyball team at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. The program began its first season in 1972 under head coach Dee Jilek. Its current head coach is Keegan Cook, who took over the team at the conclusion of the 2022 season, following the resignation of Hugh McCutcheon. Previous coach Mike Hebert had led the Golden Gophers to every NCAA Tournament, with the exception of 1998, when he was head coach of the team. His tenure was highlighted by back-to-back NCAA Final Four appearances in 2003 and 2004. Hebert also led Minnesota the program's first Big Ten title in 2002.
The Long Beach State men's volleyball team is the NCAA Division I men's volleyball team for Long Beach State University. Alan Knipe has been the head coach since 2001, except for three years coaching the United States men's national volleyball team.
The California Golden Bears women's volleyball team is the intercollegiate women's volleyball team of the University of California, Berkeley. The team plays its home games at Haas Pavilion, which was built on top of the old Harmon Gymnasium using money donated in part by the owners of Levi-Strauss. The arena was originally known as Men's Gymnasium and then later Harmon Gymnasium until the late 1990s when it went through massive renovations, which displaced the team for two seasons. The California volleyball program has seen great success in recent years, reaching the final four in 2007, winning the Pac-10 championship in 2010, and finishing as the runner-up in the NCAA tournament in 2010. The current head coach is Sam Crosson, who began his tenure in 2019.
The Washington Huskies volleyball team is the intercollegiate women's volleyball team of the University of Washington in Seattle. They compete in the Big Ten Conference and play their home games at Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion, which was built in 1927 and renovated in 2000. Prior to 1988, the Washington volleyball program had seen Huskies' victories, but it has now emerged as a perennial power. The Huskies have reached the NCAA Final Four on five occasions with one national title (2005), and won multiple Pac-10/12 championships.
The Stanford Cardinal women's volleyball team represents Stanford University in the Pac-12 Conference. They are currently led by head coach Kevin Hambly and play their home games at Maples Pavilion. The team has won nine NCAA national championships, the most of all time, and 24 regular season conference titles. They have finished as national runner-up eight times and appeared in the first 39 NCAA tournaments, failing to qualify for the postseason for the first time during the 2020–2021 season. In January 2017, John Dunning retired as head coach of Stanford volleyball. The school named Kevin Hambly as the new head coach. Hambly came from the University of Illinois and 2017 was his first season with the Cardinal.
Brad Keller is a volleyball coach and former player. He is the head coach at the University of Southern California. Keller has also been an assistant coach for the USC men's volleyball, UC Irvine men's volleyball, UConn women's volleyball, UCLA men's volleyball. He was most recently an associate head coach for UCLA women's volleyball for the 2019 season.
The 2022 UCLA men's volleyball team represented University of California, Los Angeles in the 2022 NCAA Division I & II men's volleyball season. The Bruins, led by tenth year head coach John Speraw, played their home games at Pauley Pavilion when basketball did not conflict with the home game schedule and at John Wooden Center when basketball conflicted with the home game schedule. The Bruins were members of the MPSF and were picked to finish second in the MPSF preseason poll. UCLA hosted the MPSF tournament and also the 2022 NCAA Championship at Pauley Pavilion. The 2022 NCAA Championship began on May 1 with an opening round match.
