Brent Vieselmeyer (born September 29, 1975) is an American football coach. He played college football as a linebacker for the University of Redlands and Concordia University Wisconsin, and has served as an assistant coach in the National Football League (NFL), along with various coaching roles in high school and college football. Vieselmeyer began his career as a high school coach. From 1999 through 2006, he was the defensive coordinator for Orange Lutheran High School. He left after the 2006 season to start the football program for Valor Christian High School, where he first met Jack Del Rio, then-defensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos. Vieselmeyer’s program at Valor Christian accumulated a 55-12 win-loss record during his 6 seasons as their head coach. [2]
Vieselmeyer was hired as co-defensive coordinator in 2013 by Houston Baptist University for their program’s inaugural season. [3] After a developmental 2013 season of exhibition-only play, Houston Baptist went 2-9 in the 2014 season with Vieselmeyer as co-DC. [4]
In 2015, Vieselmeyer was hired as the assistant linebackers coach of the Oakland Raiders, part of new head coach Jack Del Rio’s staff. [5] He was promoted to safeties coach for the 2017 season. [6] Following Del Rio being fired at the end of the 2017 season, he was not retained by new head coach Jon Gruden.
After leaving the Raiders, Vieselmyer spent the 2018 season as an offensive analyst for Kansas Jayhawks football team. He then returned to his previous career as a high school football coach, spending the 2019 season as the head coach for Santa Margarita Catholic High School. [7]
In January 2020, Vieselmeyer was hired as the new assistant defensive backs and nickel coach for the Washington Football Team, then known as the Redskins. [8] This reunited him with Jack Del Rio, who was hired as the defensive coordinator under new head coach Ron Rivera.
In February 2023, Vieselmeyer was promoted to defensive backs coach, replacing Chris Harris, who left for a position with the Tennessee Titans. [9]
Along with Del Rio, Vieselmeyer was fired following a 45-10 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving, in which the team had allowed the most points in the NFL by that point in the season. [10]
Jack Louis Del Rio Jr. is an American football coach and a former professional linebacker. He played college football as a linebacker at the University of Southern California before being drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the third round of the 1985 NFL Draft. He also played for four other NFL teams before retiring in 1996.
Ronald Eugene Rivera is an American former football linebacker and coach. He attended the University of California, Berkeley in the early 1980s, where he was recognized as an All-American linebacker for the Golden Bears. Rivera was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the second round of the 1984 NFL draft and played nine seasons with them and was a member of the 1985 team that won Super Bowl XX.
Rubin Andre Carter is an American football coach and former player in the National Football League (NFL) A defensive end, he played college football for the California Golden Bears, and was a unanimous All-American. The San Francisco 49ers selected him with the seventh overall pick in the 2001 NFL draft, and he also played for the Washington Redskins, New England Patriots and Oakland Raiders. Carter currently is a pass rush specialist for the Las Vegas Raiders.
James Donald Haslett is an American football coach and former linebacker who was most recently the head coach of the Seattle Sea Dragons of the XFL. He played college football for the IUP Crimson Hawks before being drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the second round of the 1979 NFL Draft; he went on to be named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Michael Tullis Nolan is an American football coach who is the head coach for the Michigan Panthers of the United Football League (UFL). Marco Darnell Coleman is an American football coach and former player who is the defensive line coach for Georgia Tech and former assistant defensive line coach for the Oakland Raiders of the National Football League (NFL). A former American football defensive end, the fourteen-year veteran originally was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the 1992 NFL Draft as a first round pick. He played at Georgia Tech and won the 1990 college football national championship and went to one Pro Bowl before retiring from professional football after the 2005 season.
