Brodie Matthew Brazil (born April 3, 1981) is an American television broadcaster who has won 13 Regional Emmy Awards and has been nominated for 32. [1]

Early life

Brodie Brazil was born April 3, 1981, three years before his brother Darren Brazil, in the San Francisco Bay Area suburb of Castro Valley, California. He attended Canyon Middle School before graduating from Castro Valley High School in 1999, and went on to graduate from San Jose State University with a degree in broadcasting.

Professional life

During his last year of high school, Brazil began his broadcasting career as an intern for the KICU-TV show High School Sports Focus as a result of meeting J.D. Pruess, a reporter for the show, in the fall of 1998. [2] He returned to High School Sports Focus from university in 2001 and became its co-host in 2005, continuing until the show's cancellation in late 2007. [3] [4]

In February 2009, Brazil joined the team at NBC Sports Bay Area, then known as Comcast SportsNet Bay Area, [5] where he began with ringside reporting during San Jose Sharks games. His later roles with the network included hosting the pre- and postgame shows for the San Jose Sharks and the Oakland Athletics, as well as hosting the programs SportsNet Reports, A's Central, and Sharks Central. On September 5, 2024, Brazil announced on YouTube that his time at NBC would come to an end on September 29, 2024. [6]

From 2017 to 2021, Brazil hosted his own podcast Brodie Brazil Connected, featuring commentary on the San Jose Sharks and the Oakland A's in their respective seasons.

Brazil has also worked for Shark Byte, a magazine-style show centering on the San Jose Sharks that originated on NBC Sports Bay Area.

Brazil is a San Jose Sharks insider for 95.7 The Game, an FM sports radio station. He has also appeared in episodes of Sharks Late Night Confidential, covered the San Francisco Giants and 49ers, the Golden State Warriors, Oakland Raiders, San Jose Earthquakes, the University of California, Stanford University, San Jose State University, NASCAR and a variety of local sports stories.

On December 18, 2024, Brazil announced on his YouTube channel that he has joined the San Jose Sharks and will be providing direct coverage of the team beginning in January 2025. [7]

Awards

Since 2003, Brazil has been nominated 32 times and has won 13 Regional Emmy Awards for his work with KTVU/KICU-TV and NBC Sports Bay Area. [1]

Extracurricular

Brazil is an FAA Instrument-rated commercial pilot. [3] He became a flight instructor in 2008 while searching for another broadcasting role after his departure from KICU-TV in 2007. [4]

Drew Remenda is a Canadian former hockey coach, radio broadcaster, and television hockey analyst. He currently is a radio and television broadcaster for the San Jose Sharks. He served as colour commentator for television broadcasts of San Jose Sharks games on CSN California, as well as the co-host of The Green Zone with Jamie Nye and Drew Remenda for CKOM in Saskatoon. Remenda has also served as a commentator along with his broadcast partner Randy Hahn for the video games NHL 2K9 and NHL 2K10. Remenda worked the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs for TNT.

Randy Hahn is a Canadian-American play-by-play commentator for the San Jose Sharks on NBC Sports California, and has held that position for over 30 seasons. He has over 40 years of broadcast experience, mostly in hockey. Randy Hahn has worked the Stanley Cup Playoffs for TNT since 2022. He broadcast his 2,000th Sharks game on December 13, 2022, when the Sharks faced the Arizona Coyotes in San Jose. Along with analyst and ex-partner Drew Remenda, Hahn has won five Northern California Emmy Awards in the "On Camera Sports" section; one in 1999, and others in 2002, 2005, and 2008.
