[8] In June 2020, cast member Terry Crews said four planned episodes for season eight had been aborted in the wake of the George Floyd protests, as Floyd's murder prompted the producers to reassess the direction of the season's storyline. [9] On December 31, 2020, it was announced that production had ceased on the series due to a surge in COVID-19 cases in Los Angeles, California, where the series was filmed. The last season received mixed-to-positive reviews, where many audiences found it inferior to the first seven seasons and criticized the formulaic nature of some episodes. The series finale, however, received critical acclaim. On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes , 89% of 28 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 7.8/10.The website's consensus reads: "Brooklyn Nine-Nine faces big topics with poise in a fittingly complicated final season that attempts to meet the moment without losing its sense of humor."
