Kevin Mann (born January 10, 1969), better known by his stage name Brotha Lynch Hung, is an American rapper, songwriter and record producer from Sacramento, California who was described in 2005 as "the creator of horrorcore rap".[1] He is also a former 24th Street Garden Blocc Cripgang member, which is a Crip-affiliated street gang based in Meadowview, Sacramento.
Mann grew up in Sacramento.[2] He became a fan of East Coast rappers such as Rakim and Slick Rick.[3] He started rapping at the age of 13.[4] He became a member of the 24 Street Garden Blocc Crips by age 16 during the 1980s.[2] He was once shot in the side after trying to break up a confrontation between a Crip and a Blood at a house party; the bullet was never removed.[2]

Musical style
Although often credited as being a major pioneer and even the main creator of the horrorcore rap genre, Mann himself has claimed that his style is less literally “horrorcore” and instead falls more directly under his own distinct category or sub-category of rap called rip gut, which specifically emphasizes (usually) graphic violence.
The ripgut genre itself reportedly stemmed from his love of meat, but this lyrical style is also sometimes considered to be either associated with or connected to the common thoughts and feelings occasionally experienced during manic and/or violent states of mind brought on by the use of certain illicit drugs such as phencyclidine (PCP).
2000 marked the release of Mann's first and only starring role in a film, Now Eat, a horror comedy based on his music, while an album of the same name was released to coincide with the film.
After Mann released his second LP, Loaded, he began a long-standing feud with label head Cedric Singleton over the rights to his back catalog. Singleton released Mann's next album EBK4 without Mann's permission, using other artists off the label to complete unfinished songs. This practice continued with his next solo album The Virus in 2001, and three compilations, Appearances: Book 1, Remains: Book II, and Book III, in 2002.
2003–2008: Lynch by Inch: Suicide Note, The Ripgut Collection and Snuff Tapes
Mann left Black Market in 2003 and had three releases on different record labels during the next few years. He released Lynch by Inch: Suicide Note in June 2003 under Madesicc Music. He then released The Ripgut Collection compilation on Madesicc in 2007 and Snuff Tapes "mix tape" in 2008 available on Siccness.net. Both releases enter the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums peaking at 55 and 78 respectively.
2009–2013: Strange Music
In May 2009, Mann signed a contract with Strange Music.[8] He released three albums on the label, Dinner and a Movie (2010), Coathanga Strangla (2011), and Mannibalector (2013).[9] The label offered to extend his contract after the third album was released, but he decided to stay on his own label Madesicc Musicc.[9]
2013–present: Madesicc Musicc
After leaving Strange Music, Mann released several independent EPs and a collaboration album with Ren Da Heatmonsta titled Premeditated (2017).
In 2023, Mann released a compilation album titled Choice Kuttz: Da Best of Brotha Lynch Hung, marking his return to the hip-hop scene.
Horrorcore, also called horror hip hop, horror rap, death hip hop, death rap, or murder rap is a subgenre of hip hop music based on horror-themed and often darkly transgressive lyrical content and imagery. Its origins derived from certain hardcore hip hop and gangsta rap artists, such as the Geto Boys, Gravediggaz, and Three 6 Mafia, which began to incorporate supernatural, occult, and psychological horror themes into their lyrics. Unlike most hardcore hip hop and gangsta rap artists, horrorcore artists often push the violent content and imagery in their lyrics beyond the realm of realistic urban violence, to the point where the violent lyrics become gruesome, ghoulish, unsettling, inspired by slasher films or splatter films. While exaggerated violence and the supernatural are common in horrorcore, the genre also frequently presents more realistic yet still disturbing portrayals of mental illness and drug abuse. Some horrorcore artists eschew supernatural themes or exaggerated violence in favor of more subtle and dark psychological horror imagery and lyrics.
Aaron Bernard Tyler, better known by his stage name MC Eiht, is an American rapper. Many of his songs are based on his life in Compton. His stage name was partly inspired by the numeral in KRS-One's name. He chose Eiht for its links to "hood culture", including Olde English 800 and .38 caliber firearms. He is the de facto leader of West Coast hip hop group Compton's Most Wanted, which also included fellow Compton-based rappers Boom Bam, The Unknown DJ, Tha Chill, DJ Mike T, DJ Slip and Ant Capone. After Lynch released his second LP, Loaded, he began a long-standing feud with label head Cedric Singleton over the rights to his back catalog. To compile Book 1, Cedric scraped together a lot of either stolen Lynch songs or songs from other underground rappers' albums that featured Lynch. This is essentially a bootleg; it is rumored Lynch receives no profit on anything Black Market released after Loaded. The vast majority of these songs came from other artists' albums: 'Tremendous' was taken from Sicx's LP, "It's Real" came from Mr. Serv-On's album Life Insurance, 'Candy Wit' Slam' from Dubb Sak's LP, etc.
