Bulgaria was represented by Mariana Popova in the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 with the song "Let Me Cry", written by Elina Gavrilova and composed by Dani Milev. The song is only the country's second entry, after they débuted at the contest last year.
Bulgaria was represented by Elitsa Todorova & Stoyan Yankulov in the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 with the song "Voda".
The participation of Bulgaria in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest first began in Rotterdam, Netherlands, at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2007. Bulgarian National Television (BNT), a member organisation of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), have been responsible for the selection process of their participants, since their debut in 2007. The first representative to participate for the nation at the 2007 contest was Bon-Bon with the song "Bonbolandiya", which finished in 7th place out of 17 participating entries, achieving a score of 86 points. There has been four absences from the competition, those being in 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013. Bulgaria's most recent return to the contest in 2014 proved to be successful, when Krisia, Hasan & Ibrahim represented them with the song "Planet of the Children", achieving 147 points and finishing in second place out of 16 participating countries, it compared to Eurovision Song Contest 2017 when the country finished in 2nd place and gained the country's best ever result in a Eurovision competition. They hosted the contest at Arena Armeec in 2015. On 11 June 2016, Lidia Ganeva won the national selection "Decata na Bulgaria sa super", earning the right to represent Bulgaria at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016, in Valletta, Malta. Ganeva performed the internally selected song "Magical Day " at the contest. She received 161 points and therefore finished in 9th place out of 17 participating countries.
Bulgaria and BNT chose Deep Zone & DJ Balthazar with "DJ, Take Me Away" to go to the Eurovision Song Contest 2008. They failed to qualify for the final coming in 11th in the semi-final
Bulgaria and Bulgarian National Television (BNT) once again decided to produce a special show to pick the Bulgarian entrant for the Eurovision Song Contest 2009, but in a different format than 2008's EuroBGVision. For 2009, a two-part process was used: the first part, Be a Star, consisting of a nine heats and three monthly finals chose the participants for Evroviziya 2009 which consisted of a semi-final and final and ultimately chose the Bulgarian entrant.
Armenia selected their Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2008 entry by a national final with two quarter-finals, one semi-final and a final. The winner was Monika Manchuarova with "Im Ergy Hnchyune", which represented Armenia in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2008 on 22 November 2008.
The Netherlands selected their Junior Eurovision Song Contest entry for 2008 through Junior Songfestival 2008, a national final consisting of 10 songs spread out into two semi-finals and a final. The final winner was Marissa with the song "1 Dag".
Greece selected its Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2008 entry by a national final. The winner was Niki Giannoutsou with "Kapia Nichta" who went on to represent Greece in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2008 on 22 November 2008.
Georgia participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2008 which took place on 22 November 2008, in Lemesos, Cyprus. Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) was responsible for organising their entry for the contest. Group Bzikebi was externally selected to represent Georgia with the song "Bzz..". Georgia won the contest with 154 points.
Belgium chose their Junior Eurovision entry for 2008 through Junior Eurosong, a national final consisting of 10 songs split into two quarter-finals, a semi-final and a grand final. The winner of Junior Eurosong was Oliver Symons, with the song "Shut Up!".
Bulgaria will change its selection format for the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 - Bulgarska nacionalna televizija (BNT) will internally select the artist that will represent Bulgaria at the contest in Bærum, Norway, while the song will be selected by the Bulgarian public in a national final. BNT selected Miroslav Kostadinov to represent Bulgaria in Oslo, where he will perform one of five songs which will be specifically produced for the national final.
Cyprus participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 and selected their entry through a national final, organised by Cypriot broadcaster Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CyBC). After an open call to performers to submit proposals, ten entries were shortlisted for the 7 February national final. Deep Zone and their song "Play" were disqualified after the song was found to have been unofficially released before the final, breaching the contest's rules and leaving nine to compete in the final. Welsh singer Jon Lilygreen & The Islanders were chosen as the Cypriot entry on 7 February with their song "Life Looks Better in Spring" and competed in the second half of the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2010.

The Bulgarian entry was selected through a national final, organised by the Bulgarian broadcaster Bulgarian National Television (BNT). Sofi Marinova represented Bulgaria with the song "Love Unlimited", which failed to qualify from the second semi-final, achieving 11th place with 45 points.
Bulgaria selected their Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2011 entry through the national selection "Konkurs za detska pesen na Evroviziya 2011". The winner was Ivan Ivanov with the song "Supergeroy". He represented Bulgaria in the contest where he placed 8th with 60 points.
Bulgaria participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmö, Sweden. The Bulgarian entry was selected through a combination of an internal selection to select the artist and a national final to select the song, organised by the Bulgarian broadcaster Bulgarian National Television (BNT). After a copyright issue with winning song of the national final, "Kismet", the song was replaced with the runner-up. Elitsa Todorova and Stoyan Yankulov represented Bulgaria with the song "Samo shampioni", which failed to qualify from the second semi-final of the competition, placing 12th and scoring 45 points.
Bulgaria participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015, as the host country, after Italy who had won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014, declined the invitation from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to host the contest. The event took place at the Arena Armeec on 21 November 2015. National broadcasters Bulgarian National Television (BNT) and bTV jointly organised the national selection process, in order to decide who would represent them on home soil.
Russia participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015 which took place on 21 November 2015, in Sofia, Bulgaria. The Russian broadcaster, Russia-1, selected their entry through a televised national final. Mikhail Smirnov won it and represented Russia with his song "Mechta (Dream)". He finished 6th in the final of the contest with 80 points.
Bulgaria participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with the song "Beautiful Mess" written by Borislav Milanov, Sebastian Arman, Joacim Bo Persson, Alex Omar and Alexander V. Blay. The song was performed by Russian-Bulgarian singer Kristian Kostov. On 13 March 2017, the Bulgarian broadcaster Bulgarian National Television (BNT) announced that Kristian Kostov had been internally selected to compete at the 2017 contest in Kyiv, Ukraine. The song that Kostov competed with, "Beautiful Mess", was also internally selected and was presented to the public later the same day.
Bulgaria participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018. Equinox were internally selected by the Bulgarian broadcaster Bulgarian National Television (BNT) on 12 March 2018 to perform the song “Bones” that represented the nation at the 2018 contest in Lisbon, Portugal.
