Russia participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2008 in Lemesos, Cyprus. The Russian entry was selected through a national final, organised by Russian broadcaster All-Russia State Television and Radio Company (VGTRK). The final was held on 1 June 2008. [1] Mikhail Puntov and his song "Spit angel" won the national final, getting 10.81% of votes.

Before Junior Eurovision

National Final

On 2 March 2008, VGTRK announced that a national final would be held to select Russia' entry for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2008. A submission period for interested artists was opened and lasted until 20 April 2008. A professional jury selected twenty artists and songs from the applicants to proceed to the televised national final.

The selected artists and songs competed at the national final which took place on 1 June 2008 at the "Rossiya" concert hall in Moscow, hosted by Oskar Kuchera and Oksana Fedorova. In addition to the performances from the competitors, the show featured guest performances by Masha Pestunova, Aleksandra Golovchenko, Vlad Krutskikh and Tolmachevy Sisters. The members of the jury were Yury Entin, Artur Gasparyan, Gennady Gokhstein and Grygory Gladkov.

At Junior Eurovision

During the allocation draw on 14 October 2008, Russia was drawn to perform 4th, following Belarus and preceding Greece. Russia placed 7th, scoring 73 points. [2]

Mikhail Puntov was joined on stage by dancers from band "Volshebniki Dvora".

In Russia, show were broadcast on Russia-1 with commentary by Olga Shelest. The Russian spokesperson revealing the result of the Russian vote was Sarina Urman.

Mikhail Aleksandrovich Puntov (Russian : Михаил Александрович Пунтов; born 23 December 1994, Krasny Sulin, Rostov Oblast, Russian Federation) competed in the 2008-edition of Junior Eurovision Song Contest with the song Spit Angel (Sleeping Angel). In the final in Limasol the then 12-year-old Mikhail came 7th out of 15 contestants, scoring 73 points. [4] [ better source needed ] At that time Mikhail was a member of the group Street Magic just like Vlad Krutskikh who represented Russia in 2005. The background vocals were some other members of Street Magic: Seva Terasov (also one of the writers of Spit Angel) and Andrei Raspopov. Nowadays Mikhail together with Vlad, Seva, and Andrei form the band Geroi.

The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2008 was the sixth edition of the annual Junior Eurovision Song Contest, which is the world's largest song contest for children. It was held at the "Spyros Kyprianou" Athletic Centre in Lemesos, Cyprus and hosted by Alex Michael and Sophia Paraskeva. The theme of the event was "Fun in the Sun". It was won by the Georgian trio Bzikebi, with the song "Bzz..". Ukraine took 2nd place and Lithuania finished 3rd. Bzikebi also became the first group act to win the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

Romania was represented by Mădălina & Andrada at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2008 with the song "Salvaţi planeta!", a song about saving the planet. "Salvaţi planeta!" was the winner of the Romanian national final Selecţia Naţională Eurovision Junior 2008, held on 1 June 2008.

Armenia selected their Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2008 entry by a national final with two quarter-finals, one semi-final and a final. The winner was Monika Manchuarova with "Im Ergy Hnchyune", which represented Armenia in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2008 on 22 November 2008.

The Netherlands selected their Junior Eurovision Song Contest entry for 2008 through Junior Songfestival 2008, a national final consisting of 10 songs spread out into two semi-finals and a final. The final winner was Marissa with the song "1 Dag".

Georgia participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2008 which took place on 22 November 2008, in Lemesos, Cyprus. Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) was responsible for organising their entry for the contest. Group Bzikebi was externally selected to represent Georgia with the song "Bzz..". Georgia won the contest with 154 points.

Belgium chose their Junior Eurovision entry for 2008 through Junior Eurosong, a national final consisting of 10 songs split into two quarter-finals, a semi-final and a grand final. The winner of Junior Eurosong was Oliver Symons, with the song "Shut Up!".

Serbia selected their Junior Eurovision entry for 2008 through a national final consisting of 12 songs. The winning song was selected by televoting and jury voting, which was Maja Mazić with "Uvek kad u nebo pogledam"..

Malta selected their Junior Eurovision entry for 2008 through Junior Eurosong, a national final consisting of 16 songs. The winner was Daniel Testa, with the song "Junior Swing".

Russia participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2009 in Kyiv, Ukraine. The Russian entry was selected through a national final, organised by Russian broadcaster All-Russia State Television and Radio Company (VGTRK). The final was held on 31 May 2009. Ekaterina Ryabova and her song "Malenkiy prints" won the national final, getting 12.07% of votes.

Russia participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2005 in Hasselt, Belgium. The Russian entry was selected through an internal selection. On 10 November 2005 it was revealed that Vladislav Krutskikh would represent Russia in the contest with the song "Doroga k solntsu".

The song was performed by Sergey Lazarev who was internally selected by the Russian broadcaster All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (VGTRK) to compete at the 2016 contest in Stockholm, Sweden. Lazarev's appointment as the Russian representative was announced on 10 December 2015, while the song, "You Are the Only One", was presented to the public on 5 March 2016.

Romania participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with the song "Yodel It!" written by Mihai Alexandru and Alexandra Niculae. The song was performed by Ilinca and Alex Florea. In October 2016, the Romanian broadcaster Televiziunea Română (TVR) announced that they would be returning to the Eurovision Song Contest after a one-year absence following their forced withdrawal in 2016 due to repeated non-payment of debts to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). TVR organised the national final Selecția Națională 2017 in order to select the Romanian entry for the 2017 contest in Kyiv, Ukraine. The national final consisted of two shows: a semi-final and a final. Fifteen entries were selected to compete in the semi-final on 26 February 2017 where a five-member jury panel selected ten entries to advance to the final. The ten qualifiers competed in the final on 5 March 2017 where "Yodel It!" performed by Ilinca and Alex Florea was selected as the winner entirely by a public vote.
