Doctor Robert William Irvine, (1853–1897) nicknamed "Bulldog", [2] was a Scotland international rugby football player. [3]
He played for Edinburgh Academicals. [3]
He represented Edinburgh District against Glasgow District in the Inter-City matches; and played in the first match in 1872.
He represented East of Scotland District against West of Scotland District in 1876. [4]
He was capped 13 times for Scotland between 1871 and 1880, [3] including the first ever rugby international. [5]
He was the brother of Duncan Irvine who was also capped for Scotland. [3]
Andrew Robertson Irvine is a former president of the Scottish Rugby Union (SRU), and a former Scottish international rugby player. He earned fifty one Scotland caps, captaining the team on fifteen occasions, and scored 250 points for Scotland. He went on three British Lions tours.

David Dickie Howie was a rugby union player, who represented Scotland and Kirkcaldy RFC. He enlisted as a trooper in the local yeomanry in September 1914, at the start of the First World War. After undergoing training in England, he was commissioned second lieutenant in the Royal Field Artillery in April 1915 and despatched to Gallipoli in August. During the evacuation of Anzac Bay, he contracted pneumonia, and died in Cairo, Egypt, after shooting himself with a revolver while in a state of delirium. He is buried at the Cairo War Memorial Cemetery.
