Local elections were held in Bungoma County to elect a Governor and County Assembly on 4 March 2013. [1] Under the new constitution, which was passed in a 2010 referendum, the 2013 general elections were the first in which Governors and members of the County Assemblies for the newly created counties were elected. Bungoma County County in Kenya

Bungoma County is a county in the former Western Province of Kenya. Its capital is Bungoma or Bungoma Town. It has a population of 1,375,063 and an area of 2,069 km². In 2010, the neighbouring Mount Elgon District was eliminated and its lands merged with Bungoma District to form Bungoma County.

Electoral Commission of Kenya refers to the now defunct commission that was disbanded by the 10th Parliament in 2008 and replaced with the Interim Independent Electoral Commission of Kenya. Samuel Kivuitu the last Chairman of the Commission and the commissioners at the time of disbanding, in November, 2008, moved to court to contest the disbanding of the Commission. They claim that the disbanding was unconstitutional as a tribunal should have been set up to investigate the wrongdoing on their part in the 2007 Presidential election. The next hearing for the suit will on February 3, 2010 at the Constitutional Court.
