Kitui Gubernatorial Elections were held in Kitui to elect a Governor and County Assembly on 4 March 2013. [1] Under the new constitution, which was passed in a 2010 referendum, the 2013 general elections were the first in which Governors and members of the County Assemblies for the newly created counties were elected. They will also be the first general elections run by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) which has released the official list of candidates. [2]

Kitui County County in Kenya

Kitui County is a county in the former Eastern Province of Kenya. Its capital and largest town is Kitui, although Mwingi is also another major urban centre. The county has a population of 1,012,709 (2009 census. and an area of 24,385.1 km².

Constitution of Kenya supreme law of the Republic of Kenya

The Constitution of Kenya is the supreme law of the Republic of Kenya. There have been three significant versions of the constitution, with the most recent redraft being enabled in 2010. The 2010 edition replaced the 1963 independence constitution. The constitution was presented to the Attorney General of Kenya on 7 April 2010, officially published on 6 May 2010, and was subjected to a referendum on 4 August 2010. The new Constitution was approved by 67% of Kenyan voters. The constitution was promulgated on 27 August 2010.

Charity Ngilu Kenyan politician

Charity Kaluki Ngilu is a Kenyan politician and the second governor elected for Kitui County. She served as Minister for Health from 2003 until 2007 and Minister of Water and Irrigation from April 2008 to 2013. She also served as Cabinet Secretary for Land, Housing and Urban Development from 2013 until 2015.

David Musila is a Kenyan politician. He belongs to the Wiper Democratic Movement and was elected to represen Mwingi South Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya since the Kenyan parliamentary election of 1997. He is currently a senator representing Kitui County. Musila was a DO, DC and deputy PC between 1966 and 1979. In 1979, he was Moi's choice as PC for the troubled Central Province, a post which he retained until 1985, after which he became Director of Tourism. He retired from the civil service in 1988. He was elected as a KANU MP in 1997 and has remained in the house ever since, moving to the LDP wing of NARC in 2002, and was Deputy-Speaker in the 2003 Parliament. He was a KANU official in the 1990s and later became Deputy Chairman and then Chairman of the Liberal Democratic party (LDP).

Julius Makau Malombe is a Kenyan politician and the first Governor of Kitui County. He was elected on a Wiper Democratic Movement-Kenya (WDM-K) in the Kitui local elections, 2013 held in March 2013. Malombe defended his seat on Wiper ticket in the 2017 general election but lost to Charity Ngilu. He was a distant third with David Musila coming second.
