Local elections were held in Kwale to elect a Governor and County Assembly on 4 March 2013. [1] Under the new constitution, which was passed in a 2010 referendum, the 2013 general elections were the first in which Governors and members of the County Assemblies for the newly created counties were elected.[ citation needed ]

Salim Mvurya, Salim Mvurya Mkala or Mvurya Salim Mgalla is a Kenyan politician. He became the first governor of Kwale County, Kenya after winning in the 2013 general elections. He vied on an Orange Democratic Movement ticket but later joined the Jubilee Party of Kenya. It was announced on 30 August 2017 that he will named Chairman of Kenya's Council of Governors. He will replace current chairman Josphat Nanok.

2013 Kenyan local elections

Local elections were held in Kenya on 4 March 2013 as part of the general elections. Voters elected governors and members of County Assemblies of the 47 counties created by the 2010 constitution.
