Salim Mvurya,Salim Mvurya Mkala or Mvurya Salim Mgalla (born 1970) is a Kenyan politician. He became the first governor of Kwale County,Kenya after winning in the 2013 general elections. He vied on an Orange Democratic Movement ticket but later joined the Jubilee Party of Kenya. [2] It was announced on 30 August 2017 that he will be named Chairman of Kenya's Council of Governors. Unfortunately he didn't get to,instead governor Wycliffe Oparanya took over from NANOK.Two of his sons study at the Alliance High School namely Hassan Mvurya and Abdallah Mvurya.
Salim Mvurya was born at Kadzandani Village,Kinango District of Kwale County. He went to Mavirivirini Primary School in 1979 then Mpeketoni Secondary School from 1987 to 1990. He then proceeded to Egerton University for his first degree and graduated with Bachelors in Agri-Business Management in 1996. He holds a master's degree in Participation,Power and Social Change from the Institute of Development Studies,in England,UK. [3] He also has further certificates in NGO management from MS-TCDC in Arusha,Tanzania.
Salim Mvurya has 17 years of social development and leadership experience. In the year 2008,he was appointed to be the Acting Country Director for Plan Kenya. Other organizations he has worked for include the Aga Khan Foundation and Tegemeo Institute of Agricultural Policy and Development (an institute of Egerton University). Some of the programs he implemented were funded by DFID,USAID,Ministries of Foreign Affairs in Netherlands and Finland,and NORAD,Norway.
In the 2013 general elections,Mvurya ran for Kwale governorship on an ODM ticket with Fatuma Achani as his running mate. His rivals were James Dena,Kassima Rigga Mambo,Simeon Mwero Mkalla and Mwarapayo Mohammed Mwachai. Mvurya won by more than half the votes cast.
In May 2014,Mvurya ousted Nairobi governor Evans Kidero to become vice chairman of the Council of Governors.
On 29 September 2014 while at a rally with Raila Odinga in Kinango,Mvurya and Odinga were attacked by an elderly man who hit them on their backs with a stick. The security detail at the rally quickly subdued the man who was later released after it was established that he was mentally unstable. [4]
After several months of speculation,Mvurya announced in September 2016 that he was leaving ODM and that he would run on a Jubilee Alliance ticket in the 2017 general elections. [5] His deputy,Fatuma Achani,had cited interference from other county chiefs in Kwale politics. Rumors had also been rife that senior officers in ODM had conspired to deny him the 2017 ODM ticket for what they termed as his refusal to be loyal to them and also for working with Jubilee.
On 30 August 2017, [6] Kenya's Council of Governors agreed to elect Mvurya as the Council's Chairman. [7]
Hon Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka is a Kenyan politician who was the tenth Vice-President of Kenya from 2008 to 2013. Musyoka served in the government under President Daniel arap Moi and was Minister for Foreign Affairs from 1993 until 1998;subsequently,under President Mwai Kibaki,he was Minister of Foreign Affairs again from 2003 to 2004,then Minister of the Environment from 2004 to 2005. He was an unsuccessful candidate in the 2007 presidential election,after which he was appointed Vice-President by Kibaki in January 2008.
Chirau Ali Mwakwere is a Kenyan politician and diplomat. He served as the Foreign Minister of Kenya from June 2004 to December 2005,and then became transport minister in December 2005,when serious problems within the National Rainbow Coalition caused a cabinet reshuffle. As a young man he became well-educated and entered government service in 1967,serving as an ambassador to several countries and also in several domestic positions,including education. He was a member of the Kenya African National Union until 2002,rising to the rank of deputy leader,but he left to join the new opposition National Rainbow Coalition which won the 2002 elections. He is a Muslim and enjoys playing golf.
Wycliffe Musalia Mudavadi Born on September 21,1960,in Sabatia,Vihiga District,Kenya,Musalia Mudavadi is the Prime Cabinet Secretary-designate of the Republic of Kenya. He served as the Seventh Vice-President of Kenya in 2002 and Deputy Prime Minister when he resigned to contest for the Presidency in 2013 and emerged third. He was the Deputy Party Leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) (2005-2012) and Party Leader of the United Democratic Front (UDF). Currently,he is the Prime Cabinet Secretary-designate under the Kenya Kwanza Alliance (KKA) led by President William Ruto that won the 2022 Kenya General Election,and the party leader of the Amani National Congress (ANC) and one of the founding members of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance (KKA).
Raila Amolo Odinga is a Kenyan politician,former Member of Parliament (MP) for Langata and businessman who served as the Prime Minister of Kenya from 2008 to 2013. He is assumed to be the Leader of Opposition in Kenya since 2013.

This movement separated in August 2007 into the Orange Democratic Movement Party of Kenya and the Wiper Democratic Movement –Kenya.

Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya is a Kenyan politician who served as the governor of Kakamega County from 2013 to 2022. He was elected on 4 March 2013 and became the first governor of Kakamega County following promulgation of the Constitution of Kenya in 2010 and subsequently in August 2017,for his second term as the governor. He is,therefore,the pioneer Governor of Kakamega County under the devolved system of governance in Kenya that established 47 counties. He was previously Minister of State for Planning,National Development and Vision 2030 in the government of President Mwai Kibaki. He was appointed on 14 January 2019 as the Council of Governors of Kenya chairperson. Wycliffe Oparanya is also the current Ford Kenya Party deputy party leader.
Hassan Ali Joho is a Kenyan politician and the former Governor of Mombasa County affiliated with the Orange Democratic Movement. He was also elected to represent the Kisauni Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya during the 2007 Kenyan parliamentary election. On 4 March 2013,during the general election,Joho was elected as the first governor of Mombasa County. In 2017 General Elections Day in Kenya held on 8th,August,Joho retained his seat on an ODM ticket. Despite significant politically engineered setbacks,Joho emerged triumphant by winning with 220 576 votes against his closest rival Suleiman Shahbal with 69 322 votes,Suleiman is a member of the Jubilee Party. He served as governor of Mombasa until 2022 when he completed his ten year term paving way for his successor Abdulswammad Sharrif Nassir the former member of the National Assembly for Mvita Constituency.
The United Democratic Movement (UDM) is a political party that was founded in 1999 by politicians who were at the time considederd to be renegades from the then ruling party Kenya African National Union but was denied registration by the then head of state Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi and most of its then leaders went to other parties by the time of the 2002 general elections.

Azimio la Umoja–One Kenya Coalition Party,popularly referred as Azimio la Umoja,or simply Azimio,is a political alliance and party headed by Raila Odinga. Odinga was the presidential candidate and Martha Karua the deputy presidential candidate of the alliance. Former president of Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta is the patron. It is composed of Orange Democratic Movement,Jubilee Party,NARC-Kenya and other parties. The alliance unveiled their manifesto at Nyayo National Stadium in June 2022.
