Buniadpur Municipality is the civic body that governs Buniadpur and its surrounding areas in Gangarampur subdivision of Dakshin Dinajpur district, West Bengal, India.

Buniadpur is a City and a Municipality in North Bengal in the Dakshin Dinajpur district, West Bengal, India.

Gangarampur subdivision is an administrative subdivision of the Dakshin Dinajpur district in the Indian state of West Bengal.

Dakshin Dinajpur or South Dinajpur is a of district in the Indian state of West Bengal, India. It was created on 1 April 1992 by the division of the erstwhile West Dinajpur District. The Headquarter (sadar) of the district is at Balurghat. It comprises two subdivisions: Balurghat and Gangarampur at Buniadpur. According to the 2011 population, it is the third least populous District of West Bengal.

History

A municipal area for Buniadpur village was constituted with effect from 1 March 2015, as per Notification No. 98/MA/O/C-4/M-16/2011 dated 24 February 2015 of the Department of Municipal Affairs, Government of West Bengal, and published in the Kolkata Gazette dated 26 February 2015. The following mouzas were included in Buniadpur municipality: Khusipur, Sherpur, Buniadpur, Narayanpur, Selimabad, Thingur, Amai, Karkha, Shibpur, Koil, Barail, Rashidpur, Aligara, Haldi, Joydebpur, Mirjapur, Math Khidirpur, Rangapukur, Surai, Malam and Chaksadulla.^[1]

Geography

Buniadpur Municipality covers an area of 24.49 sq km.^[2]

Election

The first election of Buniadpur Municipality was held in 2017. Trinamool Congress won in 13 out of the 14 wards, with BJP only winning in 1 ward. ^[3]

The All India Trinamool Congress is a centre-left national political party in India. The party is led by its founder and current chief minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee. Following the 2019 general election, it is currently the fifth largest party in the Lok Sabha with 22 seats.

The Bharatiya Janata Party is one of the two major political parties in India, along with the Indian National Congress. As of 2019, it is the country's largest political party in terms of representation in the national parliament and state assemblies and is the world's largest party in terms of primary membership. BJP is a right-wing party, and its policy has historically reflected Hindu nationalist positions. It has close ideological and organisational links to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
