History

Burney was laid out in 1882. [3] Burney was the name of a local family. [4] A post office was established at Burney in 1884, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1995. [5]

The United States Census Bureau delineated Burney as a census designated place in the 2022 American Community Survey. [6]

Leroy Edgar Burney, Surgeon General under Eisenhower, was born in Burney, Indiana.
