The Business Journalist of the Year Awards recognize business and finance journalists and broadcasters from around the world. They were first presented in 1999. [1]
The Awards were created by The Leadership Forum, [2] (previously the World Leadership Forum Ltd.) which has now ceased operation. With business information now a global commodity, the objective of the awards was to maintain the quality of information being reported.
The Awards are judged exclusively by journalists, and governed by the World's leading business editors. In 2007, [3] the Editors' Committee composed of Martin Dickson, Deputy Editor of the Financial Times ; Robert Peston, business editor at the BBC; Hugo Dixon, editor-in-chief and chairman of Breakingviews; Jesse Lewis, managing editor of The Wall Street Journal Europe ; and Rik Kirkland, former managing editor of Fortune .

It was established in 1896 and bought by Tribune Company in 1986. Current owner Tribune Publishing spun off from the company in 2014. In 2016, The Daily Press has a daily average readership of approximately 101,100. It had a Sunday average readership of approximately 169,200. Using a frequently used industry-standard readership of 2.2 readers per copy, the October 2022 readership is estimated to be 38,000. It is the sister newspaper to Norfolk's The Virginian-Pilot, which was its southern market rival until Tribune's purchase of that paper in 2018; the papers have both been based out of the Daily Press building since May 2020.

Bloody Elbow is a news website that covers the sports of mixed martial arts (MMA), boxing, kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, and other traditional martial arts and combat sports. Founded in 2007, the site has been notable for its investigative reporting, breaking news coverage, opinion and analysis. Bloody Elbow operated as part of the SB Nation network of sports blogging sites owned by Vox Media until January 2023, when the blog separated from Vox and was acquired as an independent publication by its founding editor. One year later in March 2024 the website was sold to GRV Media. The website is a part of the growing collection of MMA focused media outlets and provides analysis as well as commentary of multiple aspects of MMA.
News Leaders Association (NLA) is a non-profit organization that focuses on training and supporting journalists. Formerly the American Society of News Editors and Associated Press Media Editors, the organizations merged in 2019 to form NLA.
