The Middlebury C.V. Starr Schools Abroad, operated by Middlebury College in 17 countries across 5 continents, offer overseas academic programs for undergraduates from various U.S. institutions, as well as graduate-level programs for students from the Middlebury College Language Schools and the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey. The first School was the School in Paris, opened in 1949. The Middlebury C.V. Starr Schools have been endowed by the C.V. Starr Foundation.

Academic program

Programs vary in nature and in size. All instruction is in the host country language and conforms to that country's educational approach. Students may study for one or two semesters and can combine an internship with academic study. At many of the Schools, students can opt to directly enroll at a local university. [1]

The Middlebury C.V. Starr Schools have an immersion-based approach to language and cultural acquisition. All students must sign Middlebury's "Language Pledge," agreeing to exclusively use their target language for the duration of the program. [2]

There was also a school in Alexandria, Egypt until it closed after being evacuated during the 2011 revolution. [4] [5] The school in Egypt was replaced with a school in Rabat, Morocco, which opened in 2016. [6]

Cairo University

Cairo University, known as the Egyptian University from 1908 to 1940, and King Fuad I University from 1940 to 1952, is Egypt's premier public university. Kings Academy Private, boarding school in Madaba, Jordan

King's Academy is an independent, co-educational boarding and day school for students in grades 7 through 12 in Madaba-Manja, Jordan. Education in Morocco

The education system in Morocco comprises pre-school, primary, secondary and tertiary levels. The Middlebury-Monterey Language Academy (MMLA) is a summer language immersion program for pre-college students in 8th–12th grades. Founded in 2008 by Middlebury College and its graduate school, the Monterey Institute of International Studies, the Language Academy convenes on two college campuses in the United States and at three abroad locations. Languages taught at MMLA include Arabic, French, German, Chinese and Spanish.

The Middlebury Language Schools are language schools administered by Middlebury College. The programs comprise undergraduate and graduate instruction in 11 languages during six-, seven-, or eight-week summer sessions. The Schools enroll approximately 1,500 students every summer. The pedagogical approach of the programs relies on immersion-based instruction and acquisition. All students in the Language Schools must sign and abide by Middlebury College's "Language Pledge", a pledge to use their target language exclusively during the duration of their time at the School.

Dr. Sunder Ramaswamy is an international development economist, an educator, and higher education administrator with extensive experience in U.S and India. He is the Vice Chancellor of Krea University, a new private university effort in Sri City, A.P., and Chennai, India. He is also a Distinguished College Professor of International Economics, Middlebury College, U.S.A.
