CGC University, Mohali is a private university located in Jhanjeri, Mohali district, Punjab, India. Formerly operating as CGC Jhanjeri under affiliation with I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University, it received university status in 2025 under the CGC University, Mohali Act, 2025 passed by the Punjab Legislative Assembly. [1]

History

Founded in 2012 as an affiliated institution named Chandigarh Group Of Colleges, Jhanjeri, the college initially offered undergraduate programs in engineering and management. With consistent growth, expanded academic offerings, and increased infrastructure, the college was granted full university status in July 2025. This transition marked the evolution of the institution into an independent university with enhanced focus on research, innovation, and global academic collaborations. [2]

The university campus is located near Chandigarh in Jhanjeri, encompassing academic blocks, libraries, laboratories, residential facilities, a central auditorium, digital learning centres, sports infrastructure, and a green-certified sewage treatment plant. Accreditation and rankings

Prior to its elevation, the institution earned an A+ grade from the NAAC with a CGPA of 3.46. [6]

In the NIRF 2024 rankings, it was listed in the 101–125 band for management and 201–300 for engineering. [7]

Research and innovation

CGC University has adopted a focus on AI-led education, industry-integrated curricula, and innovation-driven pedagogy. The university ranked sixth nationally for patent filings during 2023–24, with 977 patents filed. [8]

It also earned the QS I-GAUGE Platinum Rating across key performance indicators in higher education. [9]

Placements

In 2025, CGC University reported a record placement year, with the highest salary package reaching ₹1 crore and an average package of ₹6.34 lakh. A total of over 1,900 placement offers were made by national and international recruiters. [10] [11]

Recognition

In January 2025, CGC Jhanjeri (now CGC University) received the Quality Education Award from Punjab's Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, recognizing excellence in technical and higher education. [12]
