The Chandigarh Group of Colleges (or CGC) are the educational institutions located in Mohali district of Punjab, a short distance from Chandigarh and Mohali. Chandigarh Group of Colleges was established in 2001 at Landran [1] and at Jhanjeri in 2012. [2] [3]

Individual institutions

Even having a title with a similar name, the three groups of colleges i.e. CGC Landran, CGC Jhanjeri, and Chandigarh University, are three different educational institutions, different locations, and also the three have separate identities.

CGC Landran

In 2002, CGC Landran was created under the affiliation of I. K. Gujral Punjab Technical University. Better known as Landran College, CGC Landran offers many technical, pharma, management, arts and science courses. Landran is an interconnected urbanized village linked between Sohana, Kharar and Banur, three prominent towns or villages of Mohali.

Campus activities and sports

CGC campus students have the opportunity to be part of different cultural events like fashion shows, [4] Faculty felicitation, [5] the NASA-sponsored CanSat competition, [6] MHRD's Smart India Hackathon events, [7] Start up to Scale Up conferences, [8] NCC best cadet, [9] Faculty Development Programmes [10] [11] apart from annual Techno cultural Fests. [12] [13] CGC students also participate in many sports tournaments and competitions in events such as Volleyball, [14] [15] Wrestling, [16] weightlifting, power lifting, best physique championships [17]

CGC Jhanjeri

In 2012, CGC Jhanjeri [2] was initiated as technical campus and currently running under separate administration in Jhanjeri. It is a village which connects two important cities i.e. Mohali and Sirhind-Fategarh. [18]

CGC Gharuan or Chandigarh University

Initiated in 2009, CGC Gharaun later got University status by UGC in 2012 and is known as Chandigarh University. [19] [20] [21]

4500 Multinational corporations such as Infosys, Wipro, Microsoft, Google, HCL, Larsen & Toubro Infotech, Tata Motors, Cadence, Dell, Polaris, SAP Labs, Adobe Systems, Citrix Systems, Oracle, Cognizant, Bharti Airtel, Deloitte, IBM, Tech Mahindra visit the Landran [22] and Jhanjeri campuses with more than 490 job offers . [23] [24] Though no. of placements does not ensure that the grabbed placements are high because most of the recruiters are mass recruiters.

The highest placement gone is 1.07 cr. by off campus placement and on campus with 45.9 lakhs in the year 2022 at Amazon.

Research and development

Chandigarh Group of Colleges is one of the top 10 institutes in India in terms of number of patents filed. [25] [26] [27] CGC has MoU with the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology for Entrepreneurship, R&D Projects and training. [28] CGC is member of the AI and Deep learning project under Newton Bhabha Fund sanctioned by UK's Royal Academy of Engineering. [29] The school was granted 23 lakh (US$28,000) aid by Indian Council of Medical Research for the development of nanotechnology-based lung cancer vaccine. [30]

Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University) (abbreviated PEC or PEC Chandigarh) is a public research & technical institution in Chandigarh. It was founded in 1921 in Lahore, established in Chandigarh in 1953, and focuses on the field of applied sciences, particularly engineering and technology. It is well-known for its undergraduate and graduate programmes in engineering, to which the entry is through the Joint Entrance Examination – Mains and Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. It offers degrees such as Bachelor of Technology, Master of Technology and MBA. It also has a comprehensive graduate program offering doctoral degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

Kharar is a town and a municipal council in Mohali district in the state of Punjab, India. It is nearby Mohali city. Kharar is located at 30.74°N 76.65°E and has an average elevation of 309 metres (1,014 feet). The area of Kharar is part of the "Greater Mohali" region.

Zirakpur is a planned satellite city, in Mohali District, Punjab, neighboring Mohali, Chandigarh in India. It is set on the foothills of Shivalik hills. It is part of the tehsil Dera Bassi. It is the gateway to Chandigarh from Delhi. It comprises mainly the following areas near Chandigarh Airport including VIP Road, Dhakoli, Lohgarh, Bhabat, Bishanpura, Kishanpura, Nabha, Gazipur, Baltana, Singhpura, Peer Muchalla and Dyalpura. Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College is one of the oldest engineering institutions of the northern region situated at Gill Park, Ludhiana, Punjab, India. Panjab University Campus Students Council or PUCSC is Students' union consisting of the departmental representatives and other office bearers like President, Vice-President, Secretary and Joint-Secretary along with 123 Departmental Representatives (DRs) directly elected by the students from the various teaching departments on the Panjab University, Chandigarh campus. Furthermore, these elected office-bearers and department representatives elect the remaining five members of the executive of the Council. The Dean Student Welfare is ex officio Chairman of the Council. Elections are held every year in August–September months. There is ban on property defacement for clean elections.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">New Chandigarh</span> City in Punjab, India

New Chandigarh is a new planned smart city near Mullanpur in the Mohali district in Punjab, India. It has been designed as an extension of the city of Chandigarh. It is being developed by the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority. A digital land survey was started by using a drone on 26 April 2018 and was completed on 24 June 2018. Initial Master of city is divided in sectors numbering 1 to 27.

Punjabi University Guru Kashi Campus (PUGKC) is a regional centre of Punjabi University, located at Talwandi Sabo, India. Its main constituents are Yadavindra College of Engineering, University School of Business Studies and Punjabi University Guru Kashi College.

Parmish Verma is an Indian singer, rapper, music video director, videographer and actor associated with the Punjabi Music and Punjabi Film Industry. He started his career as a video director then singer, and later debuted as an actor with the film Rocky Mental.

Municipal elections were held in the Indian state of Punjab on 14 February 2021; the result was declared on 17 February. The elections are scheduled for 117 urban local bodies, including 8 municipal corporations and 109 municipal councils and nagar panchayats. Elections were originally scheduled to be held in October 2020, but were delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ranjit Singh Talwandi was an Indian politician who was the Secretary General of Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt). He served as Member of the Punjab Legislative Assembly from Raikot (2002-2007). He was son of Jagdev Singh Talwandi, former president of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and Shiromani Akali Dal.

Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad is an Indian Sikh politician and former President of All India Sikh Students Federation. As of 2022, he is serving as general secretary and spokesperson of Shiromani Akali Dal.
