Chandigarh University (CU) is a private university located in Mohali, India. The university was established on 10 July 2012 by an act of Punjab State Legislature. [1] It is recognized by University Grants Commission under Section 2(f) with the right to confer degrees as per Section 22(1) of the UGC Act, 1956. [2]
Chandigarh University offers undergraduate, post-graduate and doctorate degrees in engineering, management, computing, cognitive sciences, education, animation and multimedia, tourism, pharma sciences, biotechnology, architecture, commerce, legal studies, agricultural science, media studies, liberal arts and basic sciences.

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) has ranked Chandigarh University 32nd in the overall rankings, 20th in the universities rankings, 32nd in the engineering category, 36th in the management category, 20th in the pharmacy category and 13th in the architecture category as per the rankings released in 2024. [10]
A 2025 bibliometrics paper from the American University of Beirut listed Chandigarh University in a case study of schools using "questionable authorship practices" to manipulate research output metrics and rankings. [11] [12] The article noted the university had a 530% increase in publications between 2019 and 2023, [11] [12] well above India's national average of 36%. [12] Other indications of compromised academic integrity alleged in the study included a considerable drop in the university's first-authorship rate, a 45 percentage point rise in international collaborations, and significant contributions from hyper-prolific faculty with multiple affiliations. [12]
Chandigarh University is a home for sports. The campus facilitates multiple football, basketball and cricket grounds. It also has a track and field complex with badminton, table tennis and many other indoor game areas.
Many of the Chandigarh University students have achieved in the world of sports. Arshdeep Singh [13] , the member and star player of the winning Indian Cricket Team at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is an alumnus of Chandigarh University among many others.
In January 2025, Chandigarh University became the 1st private university [14] in India to win the prestigious MAKA Trophy for the year 2024. It is awarded to the best performing University in sports by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in India.

On 17 September 2022, at least 6 girls residing in Chandigarh University hostel complained to the hostel warden about a girl who was secretly recording their videos. [30] Later that day, a video erupted on the social media, where the warden of the hostel said in Chandigarh University was reprimanding the accused girl for recording bathing videos of her hostel-mates. [31] [32] As this went viral, demands for legal action into the matter were being made. [33] On 18 September 2022, Punjab Police arrested the student for allegedly recording objectionable videos of hostel inmates and sending them to her boyfriend in Shimla who leaked it on the internet. [34]
The university promptly issued a statement saying that there was only one 'leaked' clip and that it was a personal video that the accused sent to her boyfriend in Shimla. However, students at the university protested alleging that the university was covering-up the facts and suppressing the case. [35] [36]
A protest occurred on the university campus over the leaked clips. The protesting students alleged that the girl used her mobile to make videos of students taking a bath. [37] Following massive protests, the university administration declared holidays till 24 September 2022. [38]
The police denied any incident of death, injury or attempt to suicide in the aftermath of the video leak. "It's a matter of a video being shot by a girl student & circulated. FIR has been registered in the matter and the accused student has been arrested. No death reported related to this incident. As per medical records, no attempt (to commit suicide)was reported", Mohali SSP Vivek Soni said. [39]
Jadavpur University is a public state funded research and technology university with its main campus located at Jadavpur, Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It was established on 25 July 1906 as Bengal Technical Institute and was converted into Jadavpur University in 1955. As of 2024 NIRF rankings, Jadavpur University has been ranked 9th among universities, 12th among engineering institutes, and 17th overall in India. Also Nature Index ranked Jadavpur University in 1st among universities in India and 22th overall in India in terms of research output (2023-2024). Initially housed primarily at a cantonment in Solan, it later relocated to a newly built campus in Chandigarh, and was renamed Panjab University.
