Lovely Professional University

Lovely Professional University (LPU) is a private university located in Phagwara, Punjab, India. [5] [6] Established under the Lovely Professional University Act, 2005, it commenced operations in 2006. [7] [8]

Governance

The university is founded and governed by Chancellor Ashok Kumar Mittal, while administration and operations are governed by his wife, Rashmi Mittal, as the pro-chancellor of the university. [9] [10]

Academics

LPU has schools on various subjects including business, fashion design, engineering, law, education, agriculture, humanities, and tourism. [11]

Affilitations

The Lovely Professional University is affiliated and recognised by national facilitators such as the University Grants Commission (UGC), [12] the Pharmacy Council of India, [13] and the Bar Council of India. [14] [15]

LPU's School of Agriculture is accredited by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. [16] It has accreditations and memberships of the National Board of Accreditation (NBA),[ citation needed ] Council of Architecture (CoA), [17] and National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). [18]

LPU is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities. [19]

The distance education programmes are approved by the UGC's Distance Education Bureau. [20]

In the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024, LPU secured the 38th position nationally. In 2023, NIRF ranked Lovely Professional University 46th overall and 38th among universities. [36] It also ranked 32nd in management, 17th in pharmacy, 50th in engineering, 16th in law and 16th in architecture ranking in India. [37]

LPU ranked 601-800 in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings in 2025. [43]
