The Agawa Canyon is a shallow canyon located deep in the sparsely populated Algoma District in Northeastern Ontario, Canada. It was created 1.2 billion years ago by faulting along the Canadian Shield and then enlarged by the erosive action of the Agawa River. The Agawa Canyon Wilderness Park is only accessible by hiking trail or the Agawa Canyon station on the Algoma Central Railway, and is located 114 miles (183 km) by rail north west of Sault Ste. Marie.
Unorganized North Algoma District is an unorganized area in northeastern Ontario, Canada, comprising all areas in Algoma District, north of the Sault Ste. Marie to Elliot Lake corridor, which are not part of an incorporated municipality or a First Nation. It covers 44,077.03 km2 (17,018.24 sq mi) of land, and had a population of 6050 in 2021. Many of these communities were/are stations on the Algoma Central Railway or were logging/mining towns.

It lies on the Canadian Pacific Railway transcontinental main line between the settlements of Amyot on the line 13.5 kilometres (8.4 mi) to the west northwest and Ryerson on the line 4 kilometres (2 mi) to the northeast. Via Rail provides services to Girdwood railway station with the Sudbury – White River train once daily in each direction. Girdwood is adjacent to Tripoli Creek, a tributary of the Magpie River.

Agawa Canyon station is a railway station at the railway point of Canyon, in the Unorganized North part of Algoma District in Ontario, Canada. It lies on the Algoma Central Railway (ACR) main line, between Frater to the south and Eton to the north, and is acts as the terminus for the Agawa Canyon Tour Train. The Algoma Central Railway is a subsidiary of Canadian National Railway. The railway provides the option of renting a Canyon Camp Car that has been refurbished for this purpose.
Elsas is an unincorporated place and railway point in geographic Kapuskasing Township, in the Unorganized North part of Algoma District in northeastern Ontario, Canada. It is on the Canadian National Railway transcontinental railway main line between the railway points of Agate to the west and Oatland to the east, and is the location of Elsas railway station, a stop for Via Rail transcontinental Canadian trains. The station and settlement are on the northern shore of Kapuskasing Lake, the source of the Kapuskasing River.
The East Dunrankin River is a river in Algoma District and Sudbury District in northeastern Ontario, Canada. It is in the James Bay drainage basin, and is a right tributary of the Dunrankin River.
Roy A. Jodrey was a bulk carrier owned by Algoma Central Railway. The ship was launched and entered service in 1965, one of four ships constructed for the company to access ports on the Great Lakes and Saint Lawrence Seaway too small for use by the larger lake freighters. On 20 November 1974, Roy A. Jodrey struck Pullman Shoal in the St. Lawrence River in Alexandria Bay, New York. The vessel made it to the United States Coast Guard Station at Wellesley Island and tied up. At 03:00, the bulk carrier sank in 77 metres (254 ft) of water, with its entire crew reaching safety. No attempt to salvage the ship was made, but Algoma did try to salvage the vessel's cargo of iron ore, which led to the death of a diver. Roy A. Jodrey became a technical scuba diving site, whose difficulty has led to the deaths of a some of those who have attempted it.
