Cape Fear is an upcoming American thriller drama television series created by Nick Antosca. The series is not a direct adaptation, but draws inspiration from the novel The Executioners by John D. MacDonald and its Cape Fear film adaptations in 1962 and 1991. It is produced by Eat the Cat, Universal Content Productions, and Amblin Television.
Max Cady, fresh out of prison, seeks revenge on his public defender, who hid evidence from him that would have changed his case.
Nick Antosca was a fan of both Cape Fear movies since childhood, and he asked Universal to develop an adaptation of them. He began development of the series through his deal with Universal Content Productions along with Amblin Television. Development of the show was first announced in November 2023 as the project sought buyers. [1] In April 2024, it was revealed the series was in development at Apple TV+. [2] The series would receive a greenlight in November, with Javier Bardem cast in the role of Max Cady. [3] In February 2025, Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson would join the cast. [4] [5] In April 2025, it was revealed that CCH Pounder joined the cast, with Morten Tyldum now onboard to executive produce and direct the pilot. [6] In May 2025, Anna Baryshnikov, Jamie Hector, Clara Wong, Lily Collias, Joe Anders and Malia Pyles joined the cast. [7] [8] Ron Perlman, Ted Levine and Margarita Levieva would be added in September, with Levieva replacing Wong in her role. [9]
Filming began in Atlanta in April 2025, [10] and is expected to continue until October 15. [11]
