Carl Restivo is an American multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, record producer, and audio engineer. He has toured with Rihanna, Tom Morello's Freedom Fighter Orchestra supporting The Nightwatchman, Perry Farrell's Satellite Party, and Street Sweeper Social Club, who toured with Nine Inch Nails and Jane's Addiction. Most recently, Restivo wrapped as music producer on the Netflix film Metal Lords , which was released on April 8, 2022. The release of the film was accompanied by the release of the original song, "Machinery of Torment", co-written by Restivo, D.B. Weiss, and Tom Morello, which can also be heard throughout the film.
Restivo co-produced Nandi Bushell and Roman Morello's original song "The Children Will Rise Up" which was released in November 2021 and endorsed by President Obama. [2]
Restivo was the production supervisor on Tom Morello’s latest album The Atlas Underground . The album featured Portugal the Man, Marcus Mumford, Knife Party, Pretty Lights, Steve Aoki, RZA, GZA, Killer Mike, Big Boi, Whethan, Vic Mensa, and himself on the song “Vigilante Nocturno”, which he also produced “Lucky One”, featuring K.Flay. Additionally, Restivo is Morello's music director and recently completed a tour with dates opening up for Muse.
Prior to, Restivo co-wrote the song "Go All the Way (Into the Twilight)" with Perry Farrell which was released on the Twilight soundtrack. The soundtrack was nominated for a Grammy Award and has sold 2.5 million copies worldwide. Restivo also co-wrote the song "Underground" which was Jane's Addiction No. 1 track on their album The Great Escape Artist and in the widely popular Dobel Tequila commercial.
He has also worked on the in-game music for Sony PlayStation's Infamous video game and secured songs in Sony's Fist Fight, in Martin Scorsese's film Revenge of the Green Dragons and Anchorman 2 with songs placed among various networks mostly used by FX, the MLB and the NFL.
Restivo got his start by selling his first track to Xzibit and Kurupt in the 1990s and cut his teeth working with Wyclef Jean. He helped develop and record Jean's album, The Preacher's Son. He and Jean co-wrote the song "Linda" for the record and Restivo was one of the featured artists. Restivo also has the distinct honor of being uncredited in playing acoustic (rhythm and lead) guitar on the hit "Hips Don't Lie" by Shakira featuring Wyclef Jean.
Since then, he has recorded, produced, and written songs with and/or for Tom Morello, K. Flay, Bishop Briggs, Jerry Wonda, 50 Cent, Nuno Bettencourt, Steve Perry, Patti LaBelle, among others.
Throughout his career, as a guest artist, Restivo has performed lead vocals and/or guitar or bass with Rihanna, Jason Derulo, Tom Morello, Perry Farrell, Chris Cornell, Taio Cruz, Nuno Bettencourt, Trent Reznor, Smokey Robinson, Jerry Cantrell, Wyclef Jean, Extreme, AFI, Ben Harper, Billy Idol, Cypress Hill, Dave Navarro, Deborah Harry, Ed Palermo Big Band, Flea, Gilby Clarke, Graham Nash, Iggy Pop, Jackson Browne, Jason Bonham, Joe Satriani, John Densmore, Mike Keneally, Napoleon Murphy Brock, Peter DiStefano, Ray Manzarek, Robbie Krieger, Sammy Hagar, Slash, Stephen Perkins, Steve Vai, Stewart Copeland, Travis Barker, and Wayne Kramer among others.
Restivo is a graduate of New York University and in 2006 he moved from New York City to Los Angeles to work as the music director of the (at the time called) Paul Green School of Rock in Hollywood, California at the request of Paul Green himself. He left the school (now called School of Rock) in 2010 after 100 shows and co-founded The Rock School Scholarship Fund, a 501(c)3 charity to pay tuition for financially disadvantaged students at qualifying rock music schools. Jane's Addiction is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1985. The band consists of singer Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro, drummer Stephen Perkins and bassist Eric Avery. Jane's Addiction was one of the first bands from the early 1990s alternative rock movement to gain commercial success.
Thomas Baptist Morello is an American guitarist, singer, songwriter, and political activist. He is known for his tenure with the rock bands Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave. Between 2016 and 2019, Morello was a member of the supergroup Prophets of Rage. Morello was also a touring musician with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. Under the moniker the Nightwatchman, Morello released his solo work. Together with Boots Riley, he formed Street Sweeper Social Club. Morello co-founded Axis of Justice, which airs a monthly program on Pacifica Radio station KPFK in Los Angeles.
Extreme is an American rock band formed in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1985, that reached the height of their popularity in the late 1980s and early 1990s. They have released six studio albums, two EPs and two compilation albums since their formation. The band was one of the most successful rock acts of the early 1990s, selling over 10 million albums worldwide.
Perry Farrell is an American singer, songwriter, and musician referred to as the "Godfather of Alternative Music". Farrell began his career with Psi Com in the early 1980s, before becoming the frontman of the band Jane's Addiction. He became well known for his success with Jane's Addiction; the band quickly became a key act in the '80s Los Angeles music scene, blending punk, metal, and psychedelic rock to create a unique sound. The Nightwatchman is the solo project of American musician Tom Morello. Morello began performing as the Nightwatchman in 2003 as an outlet for his political views while he was playing apolitical music with Audioslave.
Satellite Party was an alternative rock band formed by Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell following the break-up of Jane's Addiction in 2004. Other members included Carl Restivo (bass) and Farrell's wife, Etty Lau Farrell. The band was initially formed as a collaboration between Farrell and Extreme member Nuno Bettencourt. Bettencourt departed from the project in July 2007.

Etty Lau Farrell is a Chinese American vocalist, dancer, and actress. She began working in the entertainment industry in Los Angeles, appearing in numerous music videos as well as nationally televised award shows. Etty was part of the original Pussycat Dolls, when the group, as a dance troupe, had a monthly residency at the Viper Room. In 1997, she toured with Jane’s Addiction, when she met her future husband Perry Farrell. She and Perry later formed Satellite Party. In 2010, she was one of the stars of Married to Rock, a TV series on the E! network.
This is the discography of Tom Morello, an American rock guitarist who is most known for his work with the bands Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave, Street Sweeper Social Club and as his folk alter-ego The Nightwatchman. Morello started playing guitar in the mid 80's in the band Electric Sheep together with future Tool guitarist Adam Jones on bass. After graduating cum laude from Harvard University in 1986 with a BA in political science, he moved to Los Angeles, where he briefly worked as an aide to Senator Alan Cranston. Later Adam Jones moved to L.A. as well; Morello introduced Jones and Maynard James Keenan to Danny Carey, who would come to form the band Tool. In the late 80's Morello was recruited to replace original guitar player Mike Livingston in the rock band Lock Up. In 1989 the band released its only album Something Bitchin' This Way Comes. In 1991, Morello left Lock Up to start a new band. After being impressed by Zack de la Rocha freestyle rapping, he invited him to join. He also recruited Brad Wilk, who had previously auditioned as a drummer for Lock Up. Zack convinced his childhood friend Tim Commerford to join as the band's bass player.
NINJA 2009 Tour Sampler is a free compilation EP by Nine Inch Nails, Jane's Addiction and Street Sweeper Social Club as part of the Nine Inch Nails and Jane's Addiction 2009 NINJA tour. It was released on March 20, 2009 for free, on the tour's official website. Both of Street Sweeper Social Club's songs that appeared on the album, "Clap for The Killers" & "The Oath", later appeared on their self-titled album. The two Nine Inch Nails tracks, "Not So Pretty Now" and "Non-Entity" were both originally recorded during the With Teeth sessions, but did not make it onto the final record. The two Jane's Addiction's songs are re-recorded versions of songs that had originally only live versions, from the band's first official record.
Street Sweeper Social Club is an American rap rock supergroup, formed in Los Angeles, California in 2006. The band primarily consists of guitarist Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine and vocalist and emcee Boots Riley of the Coup. The band had been testing songs out during Tom Morello's Nightwatchman tour and released an album on June 16, 2009. Stanton Moore drummed for the group for the recording of the album although he did not join the band for the following tour. Street Sweeper Social Club opened for Nine Inch Nails and Jane's Addiction in May 2009. Street Sweeper Social Club describes itself as "more than a band, it's a social club." Their 2010 EP The Ghetto Blaster EP includes covers of M.I.A. "Paper Planes" and LL Cool J's "Mama Said Knock You Out".

The Ghetto Blaster EP is the first EP from the rap rock supergroup Street Sweeper Social Club, released on August 10, 2010. It features covers of "Paper Planes" by M.I.A. and "Mama Said Knock You Out" by LL Cool J as well as a remix of the band's second single "Promenade." They also cover The Coup song "Everythang". It has also been confirmed that the full touring band has recorded on the album. Tom Morello spoke about the EP in a press release, saying that they shot for an interesting combination of groups. "On The Ghetto Blaster EP we were shooting for a combo of the first Clash record and the Ohio Players greatest hits, interwoven with tractor trailer size riffs of course. This record definitely has more of a 'band' feel than the first, and Boots’ lyrics and delivery have never been sharper." Boots Riley has also said of the EP “We got a new EP that’s going to come out called The Ghetto Blaster EP. [You can expect] hard, hard, hard music and some raw as lyrics on top.”
