Caroline Irena Seelig ONZM is a New Zealand academic administrator,and was chief executive of the Open Polytechnic of New Zealand. She has contributed to vocational education and distance learning for more than thirty years. In 2024 Seelig was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to education.
Seelig completed a Master of Education at Massey University and a PhD titled Interaction between CA++ and Mg++ ions and tolerance to NaCl of agrostis stolonifera ecotypes at Swansea University. [1] [2]
Seelig has contributed to vocational education and distance learning in New Zealand for more than thirty years. She has held senior management roles at Tai Poutini Polytechnic,Eastern Institute of Technology,and Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology. [3] She was chief executive of the Open Polytechnic of New Zealand for fourteen years,ending in December 2022. [4] [5] Seelig led the introduction of the iQualify online learning platform,and grew the Open Polytechnic to be the largest polytechnic in the country,teaching more than 35,000 students each year. Seelig is New Zealand's representative on the board of the intergovernmental organisation the Commonwealth of Learning. [5] [4] She served on the board of Ako Aotearoa and LearningWorks,and served two terms on the board of the Hutt Chamber of Commerce. [4] [3]
In 2004 Seelig was awarded a Woolf Fisher Fellowship. [6] [3] In 2013 Seelig was elected an Honorary Fellow of the Commonwealth of Learning. [4] In the 2024 New Year Honours Seelig was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to education. [7] [4]
Massey University is a university based in New Zealand, with significant campuses in Auckland, Palmerston North, and Wellington. Massey University has approximately 27,533 students, 18,358 of whom study either partly or fully by distance. Research is undertaken on all three campuses and people from over 130 countries study at the university. Sir David John Moxon is a New Zealand Anglican bishop. He was until June 2017, the Archbishop of Canterbury's Representative to the Holy See and Director of the Anglican Centre in Rome. He was previously the Bishop of Waikato in the Diocese of Waikato and Taranaki, the archbishop of the New Zealand dioceses and one of the three primates of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia. In the 2014 New Year Honours, he was appointed a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to the Anglican Church and was made Knight of the Order of St John in the 2024 Special Honours.
Villa Maria College is a single-sex secondary school in Christchurch, New Zealand. It was opened on 18 February 1918 with 14 pupils. It was founded by the Sisters of Mercy and served as a parish school when boys were admitted in 1921. From 1941 the school reverted to being a girls' college. Villa Maria College is a day school but it also had boarders between 1935 and 1979. In 1981, the college was integrated into the New Zealand state school system under the Private Schools Conditional Integration Act 1975 but its proprietors remain the Sisters of Mercy.

In 2005 Hughes was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services to the mental health profession. In 2020 she was appointed a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to nursing and mental health.
Lisa Shelley Argilla is a South African–New Zealand wildlife veterinarian who leads a wildlife hospital in Dunedin. Argilla is director of the Dunedin Wildlife Hospital. In 2021 Argilla was appointed as a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to animal welfare and conservation.
Josephine Harle Howse is a New Zealand academic administrator. In 2022 she was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to education.

Rummel was made an honorary member of the New Zealand Nurses Organisation in 2004. In 2024 she was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to nursing education.
Deborah Ann Manning is a New Zealand lawyer and charity founder. Manning founded food sharing charity KiwiHarvest, and a sister charity the New Zealand Food Network to redistribute food more efficiently and reduce environmental pollution from food waste. In 2024 Manning was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to the community and the environment.
