Carolus Johannes Reinecke was the rector of the Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education,situated in Potchefstroom,South Africa.
Reinecke was born on 21 December 1941,in Krugersdorp,South Africa. He was the son of Carolus Johannes Reinecke and Cornelia Marthina van Dyk. He passed standard 10 (grade 12) at Piet Potgieter High in Potgietersrus,Northern Transvaal. (His father was the principal) [1] He married Hendriena Fransina Venter,daughter of Abraham Adriaan Venter and Hester Snyman. [2] [3]
He obtained the following degrees at the Potchefstroom University:BSc (Physics and Chemistry),BSc Hon (Chemistry) and a MSc (Chemistry). He then completed his PhD (in Bio-chemistry) at Leiden University,the Netherlands. He was appointed as Head of The Bio-Chemistry department of his alma mater,and in 1983 became Dean of the Natural and Agricultural Sciences Faculty of that university.
After being Vice-rector from 1985 to 1988,he was appointed as rector in 1988. [4] He was rector until 2002.

The university came into existence through the merger of the Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education,which also had a branch in Vanderbijlpark,and the University of North-West in 2004. With its merged status,the North-West University became one of the largest universities in South Africa with the third largest student population in the country.
Adriaan Nicolaas Petrus Pelzer was a South African Afrikaans academic,historian,author and Professor at the University of Pretoria,South Africa. He retired as vice rector and acting rector in 1980 from the University of Pretoria. Among books published are the following "The Afrikaner-Broederbond:First 50 Years (1980)" and "Verwoerd Speaks Speeches 1948–1966 (1966)". He was also member of the "National Monuments Council" and in 1978 received the Laureate Award from the University of Pretoria. The Laureate Award is the highest award granted by the University of Pretoria. From 1965 to 1978 he was vice-president and member of the executive committee of Northern-Transvaal Rugby Union,and lifelong member from 1979.
Pieter Johannes de Villiers was a South African pianist,organist and composer. His nicknames were "Prof Piet" and "Piet Vingers". He is known for setting Boerneef poems to music,teaching piano and organ,and accompanying prominent South African musicians on the piano.
Josephus Jacobus de Jager known as Jip de Jager,was a South African politician. He served as mayor of Bellville,Western Cape,South Africa from 1973–1975 and from 1978–1979. Outside of politics,de Jager was a German teacher in town and an advocate for bilingual education.

The Havenga Prize is a prize awarded annually by the Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns to a candidate for original research in the Sciences since 1945. Candidates are judged on the quality of research publications and evidence of the promotion of Afrikaans. The Havenga prize can only be awarded to a person once,but can be awarded posthumously.
