Potchefstroom,colloquially known as Potch,is an academic city in the North West Province of South Africa. It hosts the Potchefstroom Campus of the North-West University. Potchefstroom is on the Mooi Rivier,roughly 120 km (75 mi) west-southwest of Johannesburg and 45 km (28 mi) east-northeast of Klerksdorp.
The University of the Free State is a multi-campus public university in Bloemfontein,the capital of the Free State and the judicial capital of South Africa. It was first established as an institution of higher learning in 1904 as a tertiary section of Grey College. It was declared an independent Afrikaans-language university in 1950 and the name was changed to the University of the Orange Free State. The university has two satellite campuses. Initially a whites-only precinct,the university was fully de-segregated in 1996. The first black university vice-chancellor was appointed in 2010.
Jeugkrag was a short-lived South African youth group,surreptitiously funded by the apartheid government's department of Military Intelligence in an operation known as Project Essay. The North-West University is a public research university located on three campuses in Potchefstroom,Mahikeng and Vanderbijlpark in South Africa. The university came into existence through the merger of the Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education,which also had a branch in Vanderbijlpark,and the University of North-West in 2004. With its merged status,the North-West University became one of the largest universities in South Africa with the third largest student population in the country.
Adriaan Nicolaas Petrus Pelzer was a South African Afrikaans academic,historian,author and Professor at the University of Pretoria,South Africa. He retired as vice rector and acting rector in 1980 from the University of Pretoria. Among books published are the following "The Afrikaner-Broederbond:First 50 Years (1980)" and "Verwoerd Speaks Speeches 1948–1966 (1966)". He was also member of the "National Monuments Council" and in 1978 received the Laureate Award from the University of Pretoria. The Laureate Award is the highest award granted by the University of Pretoria. From 1965 to 1978 he was vice-president and member of the executive committee of Northern-Transvaal Rugby Union,and lifelong member from 1979.
Pieter Johannes de Villiers was a South African pianist,organist and composer. His nicknames were "Prof Piet" and "Piet Vingers". He is known for setting Boerneef poems to music,teaching piano and organ,and accompanying prominent South African musicians on the piano.
Josephus Jacobus de Jager known as Jip de Jager,was a South African politician. He served as mayor of Bellville,Western Cape,South Africa from 1973–1975 and from 1978–1979. Outside of politics,de Jager was a German teacher in town and an advocate for bilingual education.

The Havenga Prize is a prize awarded annually by the Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns to a candidate for original research in the Sciences since 1945. Candidates are judged on the quality of research publications and evidence of the promotion of Afrikaans. The Havenga prize can only be awarded to a person once,but can be awarded posthumously.
