The Vermont Senate is the upper house of the Vermont General Assembly,the state legislature of the U.S. state of Vermont. The senate consists of 30 members elected from multi-member districts. Each senator represents at least 20,300 citizens. Senators are elected to two-year terms and there is no limit to the number of terms that a senator may serve.

The Franklin-1 Representative District is a two-member state Representative district in the U.S. state of Vermont. Hansen Hashim Clarke is an American politician and former U.S. Congressman. A Democrat,he was the U.S. representative for Michigan's 13th congressional district from 2011 to 2013. Prior to his election to Congress,he had been a member of the Michigan House of Representatives from 1991 through 1992 and from 1999 through 2002,and represented the 1st district in the Michigan Senate from 2003 to 2011. Clarke was also the first U.S. Congressman of Bangladeshi descent.
