Carrickshock is a Gaelic Athletic Association club situated in the south of County Kilkenny, Ireland. The club was founded in 1928 [1] when the teams from Hugginstown and Knockmoylan were amalgamated in commemoration of the Battle of Carrickshock, 1831.

Contents

Carrickshock have had success in the Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship, winning the competition seven times. Their record of four county titles in a row between 1940 and 1943 remained unbroken until 2009 when Ballyhale Shamrocks won their 4th title in succession.

Several hurlers from the club have gone to play with the Kilkenny senior intercounty team.

The GAA Hurling All-Ireland Intermediate Club Championship, known simply as the All-Ireland Club Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the second highest inter-county club hurling competition in Ireland, and has been contested every year since the 2004-05 championship.

Sean (John) O'Farrell (1909–1972) was a cricketer and a well known figure in National Farming and Irish Gaelic games. He was born in Kilcurl, Knocktopher, Kilkenny, in the village of Ballyhale, and migrated to the UK before returning to Ireland and settling in Wicklow. He was managing director of the National Ploughing Association and National Ploughing Championships (1958-1972), and was active in promoting hurling and campaigning for the abolition of The Ban on GAA players playing non-Gaelic sports.

The 2017 Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship was the 123rd staging of the Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Kilkenny County Board in 1887. The championship began on 16 September 2017 and ended 29 October 2017.

John Fitzpatrick was an Irish hurler who played for Kilkenny Senior Championship club Carrickshock. He played for the Kilkenny senior hurling team for three seasons, during which time he usually lined out as a centre-forward.
