Casey Kaufhold (born March 6, 2004) [1] is an American archer competing in women's recurve events. She won the silver medal in the women's individual event at the 2021 World Archery Championships held in Yankton, United States. She competed in the women's individual and women's team events at the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan. [2] [3] [4]

In 2019, Kaufhold won the bronze medal in the women's individual recurve event at the Pan American Games held in Lima, Peru. [5] [6] [7] She also won the gold medal in both the women's team recurve and mixed team recurve events. [8]

Career

In 2019, Kaufhold competed in the women's team recurve event at the World Archery Championships held in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands. [9] Kaufhold, Khatuna Lorig and Erin Mickelberry advanced to the elimination rounds where they were eliminated in their first match against Sweden. [9] In August 2019, Kaufhold and Josef Scarboro won the silver medal in the cadet mixed team recurve event at the World Archery Youth Championships held in Madrid, Spain. [10]

In that same year, as part of the 2019 Archery World Cup, Kaufhold and Brady Ellison won the silver medal in the mixed team competition held in Medellín, Colombia. [6] In September 2019, she set a new junior world record for the 72-arrow 70-metre ranking round with a score of 675 out of a possible 720 points. [6]

Kaufhold qualified at the 2021 US Olympic Trials to represent the United States at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. [11] She also set a new under-21 world record of 682 out of a possible 720 points during the qualification round. [12] [13] At the 2020 Summer Olympics, she placed 17th in the ranking round in the women's individual event. In the competition bracket, she defeated Inés de Velasco of Spain and she was then eliminated by Ren Hayakawa of Japan. In the team competition, the American team finished in third place in the opening round and they were eliminated in the competition bracket by Svetlana Gomboeva, Elena Osipova and Ksenia Perova of the ROC. Two months after the Olympics, Kaufhold won the silver medal in the women's individual event at the 2021 World Archery Championships held in Yankton, United States. [16] [17] In her semi-final, she defeated 2020 Tokyo Olympic champion An San of South Korea and, in her gold medal match, she lost against Jang Min-hee of South Korea. [13] [16] This was the first medal won by an American archer in this event in over thirty years. [18] [lower-alpha 1] Two months later, she won three medals at the 2021 Junior Pan American Games held in Cali, Colombia: she won the gold medal in the mixed team event, the silver medal in the women's team event and the bronze medal in the women's individual event. [19] A few months later, she won the 2021 Athlete of the Year award by World Archery Americas in the recurve cadet women category. [20]

In 2022, she won the women's recurve event at the Vegas Shoot held in Las Vegas, United States. [21]

Kaufhold competed at the 2023 World Archery Championships held in Berlin, Germany. She lost her bronze medal match in the women's individual recurve event. [22] She also competed in the women's team recurve and recurve mixed team events. [23] Kaufhold won three medals, including two gold medals, at the 2023 Pan American Games held in Santiago, Chile. Kaufhold won two gold medals at the 2024 Pan American Archery Championships held in Medellín, Colombia: she won the gold medal in the women's individual recurve event and in the women's team recurve event.

Personal life

As of 2022, she studies visualization at the College of Architecture of Texas A&M University. [25]

Chang Hye-jin is a South Korean former recurve archer. She is also a former number one-ranked recurve archer, having headed the World Archery Rankings between 2017 and 2019.

Gabriela Schloesser is a Mexican-born Dutch recurve archer from Tijuana who represented Mexico before 2016, and has represented the Netherlands since 2017. In 2021, Schloesser and Steve Wijler won the silver medal in the mixed team event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

There are 128 qualifying places available for archery at the 2020 Summer Olympics: 64 for men and 64 for women. The qualification standards were released by World Archery in March 2018. The 2020 Olympics were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The women's individual recurve archery event at the 2019 Pan American Games was held from 7 August to 11 August at the Villa María del Triunfo sports complex in Lima, Peru. One of eight archery events as part of the 2019 Pan American catalogue of sports, it was the eleventh time the women's individual recurve competition had been contested at the Games. Thirty-two archers from fourteen nations qualified for the event.

Tatiana Andreoli is an Italian recurve archer. At the 2019 European Games held in Minsk, Belarus, she won the gold medal in the women's individual recurve event.

The previous record of 673 points was set by Ukrainian Lina Herasymenko at the 1996 Summer Olympics.

Charline Schwarz is a German archer. She competed in the women's individual event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, and she won the bronze medal in the women's team event.

She finished 45th in the ranking round before collapsing from sunstroke amid a record heatwave in Tokyo. She was also part of the women's team winning the silver medal.

Jack Williams is an American archer. He competed in the men's individual event at the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan. Two months later, he won the silver medal in the men's team event at the 2021 World Archery Championships held in Yankton, United States. The following weekend he competed at the 2021 Hyundai World Archery World Cup Final, and became the first archer appearing at the season-ending event as a host representative to take gold.
