Casey Woods (born May 15, 1983) is an American football coach and former player. He is currently the offensive coordinator and tight ends coach at Southern Methodist University. [1] Woods played wide receiver at the University of Tennessee.
Immediately following his playing days, Woods moved in to a graduate assistant role with for the Tennessee Volunteers working with the wide receivers for the 2008 season. [2]
From 2009 through 2011, Woods served as an offensive quality control coach on Gene Chizik’s Auburn staff, winning a national championship in 2010. [2] While there, he worked closely with offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn.
When Malzahn was hired as the head coach of the Arkansas State Red Wolves, he brought Woods with him to serve as his wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator. [3]
The following year, Malzahn was hired as the head coach at Auburn, and Woods again followed him. From 2013 to 2015, Woods served as Auburn’s director of player personnel. In those three seasons, the Tigers won 27 games, including 12 in 2013, which led to an appearance in the 2014 BCS National Championship Game. [3]
From 2017 to 2019, Woods was a part of Bill Clark’s staff at UAB. He wore many hats, acting as the tight end’s coach, run game coordinator, and recruiting coordinator. [3] Woods helped the 2018 team have the best offensive season in school history. The Blazers set 21 school record in 2018, including total points (418), total yards (5,680), rushing yards (2,818), total touchdowns (53), rushing touchdowns (32), single game total yards (668 vs. UTSA) and single game rushing yards (419 vs. UTSA). This led to an 11-3 record, and the school’s first-ever Conference USA championship. [4]
Following the success at UAB, Woods landed a job at Missouri on new head coach Eli Drinkwitz’s first staff. Woods was hired as the tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator. Woods’ recruiting efforts led the Tigers to signed their highest rated class in school history in 2021, ranking #20 by rivals.com. [5]
In December of 2021, Woods was hired by Rhett Lashlee as the offensive coordinator for the SMU Mustangs. Woods and Lashlee previously worked together at Auburn. [6]
After graduating from Starkville Academy, [3] Woods played wide receiver for the Tennessee Volunteers from 2003 to 2007. He was a three-time letterman [2] and played in 41 games as a receiver and holder on the field goal team. He was also named a team captain for his senior season in 2007. The Volunteers won 44 games during Woods’ playing career, and had three 10-win seasons. [3]
A native of Starkville, MS, [2] Woods is the son of longtime college coach Sparky Woods. [4] He graduated with bachelor’s degrees in psychology and political science in 2006, and with a master’s degree in sports psychology in 2008, all from the University of Tennessee. [2] He was also a four-time Academic All-SEC selection. [4] Woods is married to his wife, Lauren, and the couple has four children. [5]
Derek Dooley is an American football coach and former player who is a senior offensive analyst for the Alabama Crimson Tide. He served as the head football coach at Louisiana Tech University from 2007 to 2009 and the University of Tennessee from 2010 to 2012.
Arthur Gustavo Malzahn III is an American football coach. He is currently the head coach at the University of Central Florida (UCF). He was the head football coach at Auburn University from 2013 to 2020. He helped lead the 2010 Auburn Tigers to a National Championship. As head coach at Auburn, he led the team to a SEC Championship and an appearance in the 2014 BCS National Championship Game. Malzahn has coached Heisman winner Cam Newton and two Heisman finalists: Tre Mason and Nick Marshall.During Malzahn’s tenure at Auburn, he qualified as the second-longest tenured head coach at one school in the SEC, behind Nick Saban.
Dameyune Vashon Craig is an American football coach and former player. He is currently the Quarterbacks coach at the Texas A&M University. Craig played professionally as quarterback in the National Football League (NFL) for four seasons with the Carolina Panthers.
Kodi Burns is an American football coach who is the wide receivers coach for the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League (NFL). He was previously the wide receivers coach at the University of Tennessee and Auburn University, where he played college football first as a quarterback and later as a wide receiver winning a national championship in 2010.
Wayne Bolt is an American football coach who most recently serving as the defensive coordinator for Troy University. Previously to being named to the position, he served as the Director of Football Relations for Auburn University. Bolt took the job in 2009 upon the urging of head coach Gene Chizik. Prior to joining the Auburn staff, Bolt had previously served as defensive coordinator to Chizik at Iowa State University. Bolt also had previous connections to Auburn, having served as an assistant at the school under head coach Pat Dye.
Daniel "Sonny" Dykes is an American football coach, and a former college baseball player. He is currently the head football coach at Texas Christian University (TCU), and previously served in the same role at Southern Methodist University (SMU) from 2018 to 2021, the University of California, Berkeley from 2013 to 2016, and Louisiana Tech University from 2010 to 2012. He led Texas Christian University (TCU) to the semifinal and the National Championship game of the college football playoff in his first year.
Carl "Trooper" Taylor is an American college football coach at Duke University. Taylor was formerly an assistant coach at Auburn University from January 2009 until December 2012 where he served as assistant head coach and wide receivers coach under former head coach Gene Chizik. Prior to joining Auburn, Taylor served as co-offensive coordinator for Oklahoma State. He has spent over a decade coaching wide receivers, primarily in the Southeastern and Big 12 conferences.
Jeff Grimes is an American football coach who is currently the offensive coordinator at Baylor University. He was previously the offensive coordinator at Brigham Young University (BYU) from 2017 to 2020, Louisiana State University's (LSU) offensive line coach and run game coordinator from 2014 to 2017, and the offensive line coach at both Virginia Tech in 2013 and Auburn University from 2009 to 2012. In addition, he was the assistant head coach, run game coordinator and offensive line coach at the University of Colorado from 2007 to 2008, BYU's offensive line coach from 2004 to 2006, offensive line coach and run game coordinator at Arizona State University (ASU) from 2001 to 2003, and offensive line coach at Boise State University (BSU) in 2000.
James Geoffrey Franklin is an American football coach and former player. Franklin has served as the head football coach at Penn State University since 2014 and served in the same position at Vanderbilt University from 2011 to 2013.
The 2011 Vanderbilt Commodores football team represented Vanderbilt University during the 2011 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Commodores played their seven home games at Vanderbilt Stadium at Dudley Field in Nashville, Tennessee, which has been Vanderbilt football's home stadium since 1922. The team's head coach was James Franklin, who was in his first year at Vanderbilt. Hired at Vanderbilt on December 17, 2010, he was previously the offensive coordinator and "head coach in waiting" at the University of Maryland. Vanderbilt has been a member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) since the league's inception in 1932, and has participated in the conference's Eastern Division since its formation for the 1992 season. Vanderbilt completed the 2011 regular season with an overall record of 6–6 and a mark of 2–6 in conference play, finishing in a tie with Kentucky for fourth place in the SEC East. They were invited to the Liberty Bowl where they were defeated by Cincinnati 24–31 to finish the season 6–7. 2011. The seniors of the 2011 Vanderbilt football team became the first class in program history to qualify for two bowl games while at the school. Vanderbilt had only been to bowls in 1955 VS Auburn, 1974 VS Texas Tech, 1982 VS Air Force, and 2008 VS Boston College.
Chad Allen Morris is an American football coach. He served as the head football coach at Southern Methodist University (SMU) from 2015 to 2017 and the University of Arkansas from 2018 to 2019.
Rhett Lashlee is an American college football coach who is the head coach at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. He previously served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Miami from 2020 to 2021.
Eliah Drinkwitz is an American football coach. He is the head football coach at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri, a position he has held since the 2020 season. Drinkwitz served as the head football coach at Appalachian State University in 2019. He was previously an assistant coach at North Carolina State University, Boise State University, Arkansas State University, and Auburn University.
Barry Lunney Jr. is an American football coach. He is the offensive coordinator at the University of Illinois. Lunney served as the interim head football coach at the University of Arkansas for the final two games of the 2019 season.
