The Castor River is a river in eastern Ontario, in Canada. It flows from Russell, Ontario [1] into the South Nation River near Casselman. [2] It has a number of branches, including the North, Middle, South and East Castor Rivers which join in Embrun. The river was named for the many beaver dams found in its watershed; "castor" means "beaver" in French.
Casselman is a village in eastern Ontario, Canada, in the United Counties of Prescott and Russell. Situated on the South Nation River about 55 km (34 mi) southeast of downtown Ottawa, along the Trans-Canada Highway 417. The Eurasian beaver or European beaver is a species of beaver widespread across Eurasia, with a rapidly increasing population of at least 1.5 million in 2020. The Eurasian beaver was hunted to near-extinction for both its fur and castoreum, with only about 1,200 beavers in eight relict populations from France to Mongolia in the early 20th century. Embrun, is a community in the Canadian province of Ontario in the Eastern Ontario region. Embrun is also part of the National Capital Region. Embrun is part of the larger Russell Township in Prescott and Russell United Counties. In 2011, the urban area of Embrun had a total population of 6,380, but if surrounding agricultural areas closely tied to the community are included, the population figure rises to 8,669. This makes Embrun the largest community in the Township of Russell.
Osgoode Township is a former township that is now a part of the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The township along the Rideau River was established in 1798 and incorporated in 1850. It was an independent township in Carleton County until its amalgamation with the city in 2001. It remains a largely rural area with only some 23,285 inhabitants as of the 2016 census. As of the Canada 2021 Census, this had increased to 24,199. On Ottawa city council it is represented by George Darouze.

Brisson is a small place at the intersection of St Guillaume Rd and Route 200 near Embrun in Russell Township, Ontario, Canada. It was the location of the general store of Parfait Brisson with a post office. Although still marked on some maps and still listed as a locality by Statistics Canada, the community no longer exists, and is not recognized by the township of Russell. Brisson had its own post office from 1907 to 1918. Parfait Brisson was the first postmaster from 1907 to 1916 followed by Arthur Bergeron.
