Cell Communication and Signaling is a peer-reviewed and open access scientific journal that publishes original research, reviews and commentaries with a focus on cellular signaling research. It was established in 2003 and is currently published by the London-based publisher BioMed Central. [1]
Raymond Birge (Center for Cell Signaling, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences, U Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey) has been the editor-in-chief of Cell Communication and Signaling since January 2017. [2] In June 2012, Cell Communication and Signaling received its first impact factor. [3]
BioMed Central (BMC) is a United Kingdom-based, for-profit scientific open access publisher that produces over 250 scientific journals. All its journals are published online only. BioMed Central describes itself as the first and largest open access science publisher. It was founded in 2000 and has been owned by Springer, now Springer Nature, since 2008.
The Journal of Biology was a peer-reviewed scientific journal published by BioMed Central. It was established in 2002 with the aim to provide an alternative to biology journals with high-impact factor such as Nature, Science, and Cell. Because of stringent selection criteria, it published only a few research articles per year, only four in 2007, for example, with the rest being comment and short review articles. The research articles were published as open access and many of these research articles were highly cited.
Gap junction beta-1 protein (GJB1), also known as connexin 32 (Cx32), is a transmembrane protein that in humans is encoded by the GJB1 gene. Gap junction beta-1 protein is a member of the gap junction connexin family of proteins that regulates and controls the transfer of communication signals across cell membranes, primarily in the liver and peripheral nervous system. However, the protein is expressed in multiple organs, including in oligodendrocytes in the central nervous system.
BMC Structural Biology was an open access peer-reviewed scientific journal that covered research in structural biology. The journal was established in 2001 and was published by BioMed Central. The editor-in-chief was Simon Harold. The journal ceased publication and was integrated into BMC Molecular and Cell Biology in 2019.
BMC Cancer is a peer-reviewed open access medical journal that publishes original research on cancer and oncology. It was established in 2001 at a time when open access publishing was in its infancy, and is published by BioMed Central. It was one of the first journals to be open access and exclusively published online.
The Journal of Receptors and Signal Transduction is a peer-reviewed scientific journal that publishes laboratory and clinical studies, reviews, and brief communications on biological receptors and associated signal transduction pathways for ligands involved in the regulation of central and peripheral tissues and cells. It is published by Informa. The editors in chief are Alex N. Eberle and Terrence Kenakin.
Elizabeth Marincola is the Senior Advisor for Communications and Advocacy at the African Academy of Sciences and is responsible for AAS Open Research, the Academy’s publishing platform. She has advocated for increased government resources dedicated to science and improved public education in science, and is an advocate of open access to the scientific literature, open scholarship and advancing research communication. Her 2013 TEDMED talk addresses many issues facing science, technology and medicine (STM) publishers, and she has advocated for quality research in Africa and why it is important. She also serves as an Ambassador for the European Science Foundation's Plan S.
Science Signaling is a peer-reviewed scientific journal that is focused on mechanisms of cell communication. It is published online weekly by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). The editor-in-chief is John F. Foley, the Chief Scientific Advisor is Michael B. Yaffe, and the journal is part of the Science Family of Journals of which Holden Thorp is the Editor-in-Chief.
Respiratory Research is an open access peer-reviewed medical journal published by BioMed Central. It covers all aspects of respiratory disease, including clinical and basic research. The journal publishes research articles, commentaries, letters to the editor, and reviews.
Frontiers Media SA is a publisher of peer-reviewed, open access, scientific journals currently active in science, technology, and medicine. It was founded in 2007 by Kamila and Henry Markram. Frontiers is based in Lausanne, Switzerland, with offices in the United Kingdom, Spain, and China. In 2022, Frontiers employed more than 1,400 people, across 14 countries. All Frontiers journals are published under a Creative Commons Attribution License.
Molecular Autism is a peer-reviewed open-access medical journal covering research on the cause, biology, and treatment of autism and related neurodevelopmental disorders.
Aging is a bimonthly peer-reviewed open access bio-medical journal covering research on all aspects of gerontology. The journal was established in 2009 and is published by Impact Journals. The editors-in-chief are Jan Vijg, David Andrew Sinclair, Vera Gorbunova, Judith Campisi, Mikhail V. Blagosklonny.
bioRxiv is an open access preprint repository for the biological sciences co-founded by John Inglis and Richard Sever in November 2013. It is hosted by the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL).
James Briscoe is a senior group leader at the Francis Crick Institute in London and editor-in-chief of the journal Development.
Roger Lee Williams is a structural biologist and group leader at the Medical Research Council (MRC) Laboratory of Molecular Biology. His group studies the form and flexibility of protein complexes that associate with and modify lipid cell membranes. His work concerns the biochemistry, structures and dynamics of these key enzyme complexes.
Cancer Cell International is a peer-reviewed scientific journal that publishes papers on various aspects of cancer cell. The journal was established in 2001 and is published by Springer Science+Business Media.
Molecular Cancer is a peer-reviewed open-access scientific journal covering all aspects of cancer research.
