Recognition and research
The CPU College of Agriculture, Resources and Environmental Sciences (CPU-CARES), has been designated by Commission on Higher Education (Philippines) (CHED) as National Center of Excellence in Agriculture. [3] The said recognition is given to agricultural schools by the said government agency who excelled in all aspects of academic stratums – teaching, research, board exams performances, linkages and publications. CHED has also designated CPU-CARES as CHED-National Agriculture and Fisheries Education System (CHED-NAFES) Provincial Institute of Agriculture for Iloilo and Western Visayas. [4]
In the field of scientific studies as a research agricultural school, CPU College of Agriculture, Resources and Environmental Sciences has programs in extension and research in crop science and propagation, Philippine native chicken, aquaculture, green agricultural technology, soils and earth sciences, environmental sciences and resources.
Attached under the umbrella of the school as centers for research and extension include the – CPU Center for Rice Husk Energy and Technology (CPU-CRHET), CPU Appropriate Technology Center (CPU APPROTECH), CPU Center for Research, Technology Development and Commercial Production of Philippine Native Chicken (CPU-CRTDCPPNC), and CPU Crop Research Center and Laboratory.
The university under the college manages the 95.8 hectares Hopevale Agricultural Land and Research Campus in Tapaz, Capiz, the 19.3 hectares CPU Zarraga Farm and Research Campus in Tuburan Sulbod, Zarraga, Iloilo, and the 7 hectares Leon Experimental Farm which houses the research center for Philippine native chicken, the largest in the country.
Research endeavors of CPU-CARES's faculties and students that yielded studies that received prestigious international and national citations and awards. Example of which include Jaime Cabarles, the dean of the college, who won the 2014 CHED Republica Award for Outstanding Research and Publication; [6] and Alexis Belonio, scientist and inventor who was awarded as the first Filipino laureate of the Rolex Award for Enterprise for his invention of low-cost rice husk stove. Facilities
The CPU College of Agriculture, Resources and Environmental Sciences is housed with its dean and college's office at the 2-story Dr. Lenwood Edge Building (Lenwood Edge Hall) on the main campus. The CPU Center for Rice Husk Energy and Technology, the first in the Philippines, is located in the said building.
Other facilities and structures under the college on the main campus include the CPU Appropriate Technology Center (CPU APPROTECH), the CPU CARES Study Center and Hall.
Agricultural research facilities of the college are located off the main campus of CPU – the 90+ hectare CPU Hopevale Agricultural and Research Land in Katipunan, Tapaz, Capiz, is dedicated solely for the institution's research and propagation of crops and plantations that grows in highlands; the 19.3 hectares CPU Zarraga Farm (CPU Zarraga Agricultural Farm and Research Campus) in Zarraga, Iloilo, houses the college's Crop Research Center, Rice Propagation and Development Farm, Pantat (Cat fish) breeding and fishponds, and Banana and Mahogany plantations; the 7 hectares CPU Leon Land houses the Center for Philippine Native Chicken Research and Development; while the 14 hectares Guimaras Land in Guimaras Province and 24 hectares San Rafael Land in San Rafael, Iloilo, are the university and the college's extension land for agricultural plantations.
Athletic facilities of the college for the Physical Education classes of its students and its athletics team, the CPU CARES Reapers, include the CPU Gymnasium, CPU Swimming Pool, and CPU Track and Field/Big Field, to name a few.
The Henry Luce III Library of Central Philippine University, acts as the college's library where it shares with other CPU's schools and colleges.
Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan, also known simply as the Ateneo de Cagayan or Xavier is a private, research, basic and higher education institution run by the Society of Jesus in Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental. Founded in 1933 as the Ateneo de Cagayan, it became the first higher education institution in Mindanao to receive a university status year before its sister school Ateneo de Manila. It was given its present name in honor of the Jesuit missionary St. Francis Xavier.
Silliman University is a private research university in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, the Philippines. Established in 1901 as Silliman Institute by the Presbyterian Board of Foreign Missions, it is the first American and Protestant founded institution of higher learning in the Philippines and in Asia.
Lyceum of the Philippines University is a private university located at intramuros in the City of Manila, Philippines. It was founded in 1952 by Dr. José P. Laurel, who was the third president of the Republic of the Philippines.
The Central Philippine University is a private research university in Iloilo City, Philippines. Established in 1905 through a benevolent grant of the American industrialist and philanthropist, John D. Rockefeller, as the Jaro Industrial School and Bible School under the auspices of the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society, it is the first Baptist founded and second American and Protestant university in the Philippines and in Asia. In 1913, women were first admitted to the school and it was later converted into a junior college in 1923 as Central Philippine School and as Central Philippine College in 1924. In 1953, the college attained university status.
West Visayas State University is a public normal research university located in La Paz, Iloilo City, Western Visayas region of the Philippines. It was established in 1924 as Iloilo Normal School under the tutelage of the Thomasites, but dates back its founding in 1902 as a part of Philippine normal school system with Iloilo National High School established by the American colonial government. It later became West Visayas State College in 1965 and acquired its university status becoming West Visayas State University in 1986.

Central Mindanao University is a research state university located in the heart of Mindanao Island, province of Bukidnon, Philippines. Founded in 1910, it is one of the oldest premier universities in the southern Philippines. CMU is recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (Philippines) as the Center of Excellence in the field of Agriculture, Forestry, Veterinary Medicine and Biology; and Center of Development in Mathematics, Environmental Science and Teacher Education. In 2017, CMU became the first higher education institution in Mindanao to be awarded with Institutional Accreditation by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines.
The University of the Philippines Visayas is a regional public research university in the Philippines with campuses and facilities throughout the Visayas. A constituent university of the University of the Philippines system, it teaches management, accountancy, marketing, economics, chemistry, applied mathematics and physics, marine science education and research, fisheries, and aquaculture. It offers regional studies programs on the preservation and enrichment of the Visayan cultural heritage.
Southern Luzon State University, formerly known as Southern Luzon Polytechnic College (SLPC), is the premier, state-funded higher education institution in Quezon Province in the Philippines operating by virtue of Republic Act 9395. Alexis T. Belonio is a professor, engineer, scientist, innovator, and inventor from the Philippines. He was "the first Filipino to receive the Rolex Award for Enterprise" in 2008 for his invention of a low-cost and environment friendly rice husk stove. Belonio was included by the Rolex watchmaking company on its list of 10 model innovators in November 2008. He serves as the incumbent chair of the Agricultural Engineering and Environmental Management department of Central Philippine University.
The Laguna State Polytechnic University is a state university in the Province of Laguna, Philippines, with four regular campuses and several auxiliary sites. It is currently classified as SUC Level III.
The Capiz State University is a public university in the Philippines. It is mandated to provide instruction and training in agriculture, fishery and forestry, science and technology, arts and humanities, education and other fields. It is also mandated to undertake research, extension services and production activities. The center of administration of the university is located at Roxas City.
The University of Southern Mindanao, formerly Mindanao Institute of Technology (MIT), is a university in the Southern Philippines. It provides instruction and professional training in the fields of science and technology, particularly agriculture and industry. The university was founded by Bai Hadja Fatima Matabay Plang, an educator and philanthropist. It formally open on October 1, 1954, and achieved university status on March 13, 1978. Its 1,024 hectare main campus is located in Kabacan, Cotabato. The University of Southern Mindanao is one of the four State University and Colleges (SUC) to achieve excellence in agricultural education and one of the nine to hold Level IV status. Across its 3 campuses USM holds a total of 5,129.97 hectares of land, mostly for agricultural teaching and research.
The Iloilo Science and Technology University is a state research university located in La Paz, Iloilo City, Philippines. Founded in 1905 under the American colonial government of the Philippines, it is mandated and chartered as a polytechnical university by the Philippine government to provide undergraduate and graduate courses in technology education, agriculture, fishery, engineering, arts and sciences, forestry, business, health, computer, criminology, nautical and short-term vocational-technical and other continuing courses. It attained its university status in 2013 renaming it to its present name, the Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT-U).
The Northern Iloilo State University (NISU) is a state university in the Philippines. It is mandated to provide higher and advanced education and training in the fields of education, industrial technology, criminology, agriculture, fishery, hospitality management, engineering, sciences and information technology. It is also mandated to promote research, advanced studies, and progressive leadership in various fields. Its main campus is located in Estancia, Iloilo, Philippines. Prior to its present conversion as a university, it was called Northern Iloilo Polytechnic State College. It was elevated to a university in 2022, through Republic Act No. 10597 as amended by Republic Act 11005, and upon confirmation by the Commission on Higher Education En Banc Resolution no. 222-2022 dated April 26, 2022.

The Central Philippine University College of Medicine, also referred to as CPU COM, CPU College of Medicine, CPU ColMed or CPU Medicine, is the medical school of Central Philippine University, a private university in Iloilo City, Philippines. Established in 2002 and opened in 2003 with its first dean, Dr. Glenn A. M. Catedral, it is one of the youngest colleges and academic units of the university.
