Central Private School (CPS) or Central Private (CP) is a private education institution located in Central, Louisiana. The school was founded in the 1967 amidst the court ordered desegregation of public schools. [2] CPS is one of several private schools located in East Baton Rouge Parish.

The majority of the students are white (78%), along with students of other ethnicities. [1] The school enrolls students from East Baton Rouge and surrounding areas.

Athletics

Central Private joined the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) on July 1, 2019, and competes in the 1-A classification. [4]

Athletics history

The school left the Louisiana Independent School Association in 1992 to join the Mississippi Private School Association (MPSA). The MPSA changed its name in 2009 to the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools (MAIS), which renamed itself the Mid-South Association of Independent Schools the day Central Private departed. [5]

Championships

Baseball Championships

The school has won 12 championships since the school's opening including the years 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2013.

Basketball Championships

The school won four consecutive titles from 1998 to 2002.[ specify ] In 2013, Central Private's boys basketball team became the first boys team from the state of Louisiana to win the MAIS Overall Championship. The Riverdale Academy (Class A) girls won the Overall Tournament in 2003 making them the first Louisiana school to win the MAIS Overall Championship.

Mascot

In 2019, the school changed its athletic team name from The Rebels to The Redhawks. [6]

Sam Barthe School for Boys, or Barthe as it was locally known, was an all-boys private school that existed for more than forty years in Metairie, Louisiana, in Jefferson Parish in the Greater New Orleans area. It featured a spartan lifefstyle and a broad education in both college preparatory academics and sports. Initially it was for boys up through 8th grade but extended its age range through 12th grade in the late 1960s.

District 4 is an athletic league, a member of the 5A division of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA). Division 5A is the highest level in the LHSAA, comprising schools with more than 1,159 students. The 5A classification was established in 1991. The current seven members are among 68 schools classified as 5A, of which 63 play all sports including football. Members are generally from East Baton Rouge Parish and Livingston Parish. The league's structure will keep the same schools at least until the summer of 2017. Teams and individuals from these schools have won state championships.
