Chakri Toleti is an Indian American business executive. He is the founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of care.ai, a Florida-based health technology company for healthcare facility automation.

Toleti was also a screenwriter, actor, and visual effects coordinator known for his works in Tamil cinema, and Hindi cinema. [1] [2] He has directed bilingual films such as Unnaipol Oruvan , Eeenadu , A Wednesday , Billa II , [3] Khamoshi and Kolaiyuthir Kaalam .

Business career

Toleti was the Founder and President of HealthGrid, an enterprise patient engagement platform designed to connect patients and providers via their smart devices. [4] In 2018, HealthGrid was acquired by Allscripts to integrate HealthGrid’s functionality into their FollowMyHealth platform. Prior to HealthGrid, Toleti co-founded Galvanon, a company that first introduced patient self-service kiosk registration to automate patient check-in and intake processes NCR acquired Galvanon in 2005. [5]

care.ai

care.ai was founded in 2019 in Orlando, Florida, by Toleti, the Founder and current CEO. The Smart Care Facility Platform is the main product which converts care facilities into an AI-powered environment that monitors clinical and operational workflows. [6] The company's ambient monitoring system is used to predict issues before they escalate, for example, tracking patient movement to detect when a patient is about to fall in order to alert staff. [7]

In October 2019, Google partnered with care.ai to use the Coral Edge TPU for autonomous patient predictive monitoring in hospitals and healthcare facilities. [8] It raised $27 million in funding in 2022 and expanded usage in healthcare facilities through integration with Samsung and Google Cloud the next year. [9] [10] [11]

Film career

Toleti made his acting debut as a child artist in the Telugu film Sagara Sangamam directed by K. Viswanath, and has acted in over fifteen films. He obtained a bachelor's degree in Film and VFX at the University of Central Florida. He re-entered south Indian cinema with the magnum opus, Dasavathaaram. In 2019, he directed two remake films of the Mike Flanagan slasher film Hush : the Hindi Khamoshi , and the Tamil Kolaiyuthir Kaalam .

Billa II is a 2012 Indian Tamil-language action film directed and co-written by Chakri Toleti. It is a prequel to Billa and the film was set at the ending of late 1990s. The story focuses on how David Billa, an ordinary man from the coastal regions of Sri Lanka, becomes a dreaded underworld don. The film stars Ajith Kumar reprising the role of the titular character, leading an ensemble cast including Vidyut Jammwal, Parvathy Omanakuttan, Bruna Abdullah, Yog Japee, Rohit Khurana, Manoj K. Jayan, Sudhanshu Pandey, Dinesh Lamba, Krishna Kumar, Sricharan, Janaki Sabesh, Madhusudhan Rao and Rahman. The film's soundtrack and background score were composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, while R. D. A remake of an English-language movie Hush, where a deaf and mute girl must fight for her life when a killer appears at her door. It stars Nayanthara, Bhumika Chawla, Pratap K. Pothen, Rohini Hattangadi and began production in November 2016. The film was released on 9 August 2019. The film was considered as a disaster movie at the box office. The film was remade again by Toleti in Hindi as Khamoshi (2019), which released before this film after it was delayed. It marked Toleti's last film as a director.

The film stars Tamannaah Bhatia in the lead role as a deaf and mute girl with Prabhu Deva in the lead antagonistic role. This film is a remake of the 2016 American film, Hush and a remake of the delayed 2019 Tamil Hush remake Kolaiyuthir Kaalam which starred Nayanthara in the lead role, and was also directed by Toleti. The film was theatrically released in India after delays on 14 June 2019.
