Khamoshi (transl.Silence) is a 2019 Indian Hindi-language slasher film directed by Chakri Toleti and produced by Vashu Bhagnani and Deepshikha Deshmukh. The film stars Prabhu Deva as the lead antagonist, with Tamannaah Bhatia playing a deaf and mute protagonist. It is a remake of the delayed 2019 Tamil film Kolaiyuthir Kaalam , also directed by Toleti, which is itself a remake of the 2016 American film Hush . The film was theatrically released on 14 June 2019. [2] [3]

Production

In March 2017, Chakri Toleti announced that his new Bollywood film was in production with Vashu Bhagnani. [5] The film was shot entirely in London, with the entire shoot completed in 25 days. Prabhu Deva stars as the lead antagonist, while Tamannaah Bhatia playing a deaf and mute protagonist. Bhumika Chawla has a pivotal role in the film. [6] [7]

Reception

Pallabi Dey Purkayastha of The Times of India giving the film two stars out of five, feels that the film fails to hold attention of audience for too long and calls it a half-baked broth of a thriller. She concludes, "Khamoshi' shines in the beginning but then it becomes ice-cold half way into its murky narrative." [8]

A remake of the 2016 American film Hush, where a deaf and mute woman must fight for her life when a killer appears at her door. It stars Nayanthara, Bhumika Chawla, Pratap K. Pothen, and Rohini Hattangadi and began production in November 2016. The film was released on 9 August 2019. The film was a disaster at the box office. The film was remade again by Toleti in Hindi as Khamoshi (2019), which released before this film. It was Toleti's last film as a director.

Devi 2 is a 2019 Indian Tamil-language comedy horror film co-written and directed by A. L. Vijay. It is a sequel to the 2016 film Devi. The film features Prabhu Deva and Tamannaah Bhatia reprising their roles from the first film, along with Nandita Swetha and Dimple Hayathi in the lead roles. Kovai Sarala, Ajmal Ameer, RJ Balaji and Saptagiri play supporting roles. The film was simultaneously shot in Telugu as Abhinetry 2. The film released on 31 May 2019.

Prabhu Deva is an Indian dance choreographer, film director, producer and actor, who has worked in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada films. In a career spanning 30 years, he has performed and designed a wide range of dancing styles and has predominantly acted in Tamil films. He made his debut as a boy playing a flute in the song "Panivizhum Iravu", from the Tamil film Mouna Ragam (1986). The title of the film was taken from the song "Seeti Maar" from DJ: Duvvada Jagannadham. Seetimaarr was theatrically released on 10 September 2021, coinciding with Ganesh Chaturthi, and received positive critical reviews. However, it collected ₹15.10 crore within the first eight days against a production budget of ₹25 crore.
